You should do 30 minutes of interval cardioAfter lifting for at least 45 minutes
thats cause we eat too much. Bad knees won't allow me to do cardio much so mostly walking and lifting 2-3 times a week. Need to cut the carbs more.
Try and at least increase the pace of your walking for 30-45 second intervals, spaced 2 minutes apart, you'll still get some benefit.
A Boston startup called Flex Pharma says it knows why cramps really happen and, more important, how to prevent them. Founded by Nobel Prize–winning neuroscientist Rod MacKinnon and Harvard neurobiology professor Bruce Bean, the company is testing a supplement that it says makes athletes less likely to cramp by resetting the motor nerves in seizing muscles. If true, Flex could revolutionize how cramps are understood and treated.
Sounds legit. I think these are the same geniuses that tried to do the disposable CPAP. Besides, we all know that pickle juice is THE best way to treat cramps. Nothing beats a good shot of that brine.
I was watching a commercial for Tommiecopper.com. It's a compression sleeve manufacturer. A more general question about compression sleeves. Are they worth the investment? I have a pretty sore left shoulder (probably rotator related) and I'd like to get something to kind of hold it all together.
KT tape does a good job (assuming you aren't insanely hairy) but anything with "copper" in it you can dismiss as a waste of money. I used some supports my ortho surgeon gave me when I had IT band and gout issues that were a huge help but they were quite pricey.
Yea I give you a ton of credit for biking in Minnesota in the winter, I'd be scared to death of the ice.
When MDS falls on the ice - it's the ice that gets hurt!
...anything with "copper" in it you can dismiss as a waste of money....
Have been able to get back on the elliptical the last couple weeks with the help of some knee braces and have tried the increased pace (really increased cross ramp) approach. No measurable results thus far but I feel good. Will try to incorporate into my walking but its hard as usually do that with wife and she has some foot issues. Thanks again.
Intervals have more to do with heart rate than pace per se- even just jogging in place or some jumping jacks to elevate it for the two minutes would get you the effect
has anyone hiked Buzzard Rock?http://www.hikingupward.com/GWNF/BuzzardRockNorth/I'm looking for somewhere to take my three year old hiking this weekend- she's a big fan of climbing 'mountains' - so far sky meadows has been her favorite hike, but being 3 there's a definite limit to how much she can do
not exactly exercise, but, City Sports is liquidating. There are 4 or so in the area, Fairfax, Bethesda, and 2 in the district. May see if I can scoop up some shoes and clothing, maybe bike gloves.
It's a drive, but Sugarloaf gives you lots of options. You can park near the top and take a trail up. Or park further down for a longer hike. Nice views. The green trail is stone steps. It's pretty close to the ferry in Leesburg, so you could work that in, too. My kids loved getting out of the car for the trip over. http://www.sugarloafmd.com/
I loved Sugarloaf for hiking with my son.
