A good outfielder would have caught that fly in left field

This team just can't compete with major league offenses.

Note to the young folks: Washington was a beer / wine city; Maryland was 21. Virginia didn't exist until they completed the Beltway about '65. The District Line along North East was a string of bars and liquor stores just for HS seniors from Bladensburg - Hyattsville - Langley Park.

Reingold chu-a-mug, six-pack, $1 in Avondale...

Off the floor in '64. Still alive in '65. I forget what the slogan was for the '66 season, but Gil Hodges was still managing. I think the Nats traded Pete Richert to Baltimore for Mike Epstein that summer. Lousy pitching, but Epstein + McMullen + Howard. I think the New Senators still had Don Lock in CF: fine fielder, 25 homers, 200 K's per year.

This game is so bad that I'm trying to remember the beers in Chicago. Mistakenly chose Chicago for college...21 year old drinking age. Van Merritt was the cheapo beer. Needed a "church key". Can't remember the "up scale" local beer, but it had a pop-top can.

Every other team outplays the Nats in every way imaginable.  Better fundamentals, defense, coaching, better at-bats, more energy, more professional at-bats, better baserunning, better base coaching, better pitching .  Did I miss something?  better coaching maybe?

If the Nats had a decent left fielder it's 2-1

Which one?

I was specifically talking about Gio but really you could turn this into a game of Clue with all the players on this team that it would apply to.
