I think old man Lerner tells Rizzo that he's made his bed and has to sleep in it...get the guys he's paid all these millions to perform at the level Rizzo told him they could...and would.  The shopping spree is over.

I think our love of high k swing for the fences is also why this team gets decimated by elite pitchers
This team gets decimiated by average pitchers.

Heyward doesn't play CF btw. Only RF.

Has 184 innings in CF under his belt. 164 in 2013, when they were trying the Gattis in LF experiment and didn't want BJ Upton in the lineup. 1 DRS.

I don't think either one of them would be elite, but I think either he or Harper could man CF well enough. Keep Taylor on the bench as a bench bat and use him as a defensive sub for Werth, shifting Harper to LF and Heyward to RF.

Call up Turner and let him leadoff. Acquire a better C(someone who can at least hit .260 ish and play decent D).

Turner
Rendon
Escobar
Harper
Zimmerman
Taylor
Werth
New Catcher

For pitching, let Fister and J-Zimm walk. Spend that money on another solid #2 type starter. Call up Ross.

Scherzer
Strasburg
New Pitcher
Ross
Roark

Turner has exactly how many MLB PAs?

Who freaking cares? Season is over, call up the young kids that actually want to play for something.

Who else on the roster can hit lead off? I'm going to assume Span is out.

Let the kid do it. Trial by fire. He'd be no worse than when we had Taylor hit lead off.

i tend to think this was Escobar's career year.  But worse case is that he goes to the bench and we get Espinosa at 2B or SS (based on wherever they decide to play Turner) and we move Rendon back to 3rd.

So next year:

Turner - 2B
Rendon - 3B
Harper - RF
Zimmerman - 1B
Werth - LF
Espinosa - SS
Ramos - C
Taylor - CF

I don't think you see Turner on the opening day roster. I believe you are correct about Escobar having his career year. I think that he goes to SS and Espi to 2nd . I wouldn't mind Span being re-signed for 2 years but he will want 3 at a minimum. I believe more teams will be interested in him than were in La Roche.

Any lineup that includes Werth is just dragging down the team.  Sadly, it is near impossible to dump him on another team with that ridiculous contract plus I'm pretty sure he has a no trade clause.  He's pulling a Kobe and stealing money by playing out his last years of his contract paying him mega millions and performing horribly.

better hope espinosa doesn't revert to form or you stand a good chance of having 3 guys with 150ks

yeah, that's not really a lineup that inspires much confidence in its ability to score runs....kind of like this year's lineup.  Maybe we make a big splash and add Justin Upton, shifting Harper to CF, but there just aren't a lot of great options out there.  Would Austin Jackson be a big upgrade over Taylor?

it could be ugly (again). Cespedes and Heyward will be available, but that would mean that the Lerners were willing to let Rizzo either bench or trade werth (which would probably involve eating the whole contract) and to sign another huge money free agent. There are always trades to be had in the offseason, hopefully rizzo does something

You're not going to bench Werth. Not until he shows that he can't hit when healthy and given a full work up in Spring. If anyone sits, it's Taylor.

Taylor should sit, but he should sit for a centerfielder, not a corner playing center. Werth is 36, do you really think he puts up anything close to acceptable numbers in his age 37 season?

He may. He may not. But we should find out.

I don't have the exact stats but he did not hit earlier in the year before he was hurt.  I think it's doubtful that he will regain his form at 36/37.

Yes he did. He had an 11 game on base streak before being hurt. In his last ten games, he want 10-36, with 6 walks (.383 OBP).

He may never hit for power again, but I think he can hit in .275-.290 with a high OBP.

Doesn't matter. We aren't winning the World Series next year so what's the point.

I'm game but Heyward is younger and probably better in CF.

And in LF or RF. Upton's drop off is going to be insane. He strikes out a lot.
