Could have broken his 14 SO record last night. But Matt and Storen.

we're finally at a point where our two straight 'once in a generation' players are the two best players on this team.

To help them succeed we got to get rid of MW and Storen.

Stras has a 4.30 ERA (Fister has a 4.45), he's not the second best player on this team, he's not even the second best starting pitcher.

It's a shame to think of the season Stras might have had he been healthy all year.

Yeah but he and Zimmerman gave us a chance to beat the Mets until the bullpen decided to throw batting practice. Now the tragic number is 16.

Don't they actually hit the ball in batting practice?    We walked a hell of a lot of 'em.

Seems to me that a starter's ERA means nothing in the context of MW's hook and an immolation squad in the bullpen.

I know this is hyperbole but I think you can say that three (only) players performed above expectations: Harper, Escobar, and Espi.

But isn't Harper's production what we expected.

Absent a perfect stat, ERA is a general indicator of how his season is going and it's not so great. He's had no more than six quality starts all year, flashes of brilliance in another disappointing season.

:lmao:

2012: 3.0 WAR
2013: 3.1 WAR
2014: 3.5 WAR

Career ERA of 3.19. I haven't been disappointed in him at all, other than this year when he was clearly messed up due to injury/mechanics.

WAR isn't much better than ERA, and in any case a 3 WAR isn't anything to brag about, we didn't lose 100 games for a third or fourth starter.

I think we expected some improvement but nothing like the stellar year he's having. The dude is putting up Triple Crown type numbers. And, no, I'm not saying he's going to win the TC.

Disagree. He's been talked about being a once in a generation talent. Last year was a disappointment. We've been expecting A-Rod or Bonds level numbers since we drafted him.

I guess it depends on your expectations of him this year. Mine were not to the A-Rod or Bonds level given his actual performance prior to this year. But next year, I do expect that kind of performance given his performance this year. In other words, "the best is yet to come, won't it be fine." (From his walk up song.)

Has he yet to face a pitcher younger than him?

In his case:
"It's a shame to think of the season Desmond might have had had he been healthy all any good this year.

Yep, faced 2014 2nd-rounder Jacob Lindgren this year, who was a few months younger than him, I believe.
