what do ya know, Ramos hacks at the first pitch he sees for a week groundout. His approach at the plate is similar to Desmond, just makes more contact.

I've read some of the same reasoning for the Proclamation.    How it would have changed things  ....  like you say, "who knows"?
There's a whole genre of historical fiction now called, "Alternative History" that takes stuff just like that and runs with it. Most of them have the South winning the war. I don't bother with them. Nothing but the facts Ma'am.
