Mets lose 1-0.  That's what happens when your leadoff and number 2 hitter are averaging about .240 and your cleanup hitter is Daniel Murphy.

the division defaults to Washington.

This is the longest freaking 9th inning in a non-close game I think I've ever seen.

the pen is a tragedy

I think that's it. Avoids the Great Question of whether to choose, Taylor Hill, Taylor Jordan, Cole, Treinen, or whoever else is sitting in for Tyler Clippard and Craig Stammen this week.

It looks like Matt Damon morphing into Joe Gibbs.

9-1 against Atlanta this year feels extraordinarily good.

WASHINGTON NATIONALS at ATLANTA BARVES

I just wish the extraneous apostrophe didn't ruin what should have been "Traitors".

Bring back the two-inning relief-pitcher. Goose Gossage would throw two. Tanner Roark can throw two. Joe Ross can probably throw two innings.

FP, if you're campaigning for Yunel Escobar for "most underrated NL player," what about Danny Espinosa?

Never mind that it's probably A.J. Pollock or somebody like that.
Danny Espinosa isn't so much underrated as much as he just doesn't suck as much as we feared. He's decent.

Yunel Escobar has been a big bat for the Nats

Espi has slightly better slugging, but Yunel is hitting .326. Amazing.

Yesterday on the Yahoo page for the game a Barves fan commented a few hours before the game started... Let see if I can cut and paste a quote here...

"Well, we can get within 3 games in 3 days. And we have our Ace kicking it off. Shelby can't pitch lights out every single start, nobody can..." Then when we scored 4 in the 1st I was like  :lmao: He must have been thinking of when they play the Diving Mets.

There is just something satisfying about beating down your division rivals in their park, particularly when NY, Philly, and Atlanta fans are all so obnoxious.
