Wiseman, Ranked #88 by BA

After Vanderbilt's much-heralded trio of shortstop Dansby Swanson and righthanders Carson Fulmer and Walker Buehler, Wiseman is the Commodores' next best prospect. Last year he helped Vanderbilt win its first ever national championship and was named to the College World Series all-tournament team. He then went to Cape Cod, where he was playing well before breaking his arm near the end of the summer. He's returned strong this spring for the Commodores, displaying intriguing athleticism. Wiseman generates good bat speed and he's willing to work a walk, but that comes along with a fair amount of swing-and-miss. His bat speed and strength mean that he has solid power if he can consistently get to it. At his best, he hits line drives to all fields. Wiseman covers ground well in the outfield thanks to his route-running ability and instincts. He's more of a solid average runner, however, which makes him a better fit in a corner, where he has played for Vanderbilt. He's done a better job of tapping into his power this spring and if he's able to continue to do so in the professional ranks, he could shed the tweener tag and fit the corner outfield profile.

Wiseman makes two (Stevenson being the other) Nats draft picks who will be playing in the CWS.

In case any readers missed it, there's another report on Rhett Wiseman at the bottom of the previous page, from MLB.com and FanGraphs.

Here are some low-profile guys Carson Cistulli likes as gambles to draft. In addition to Orimoloye, all those guys are available. Chris Keck sounds like a Pedroia type? Peter Fairbanks sounds interesting too, RHP who throws 94 and is improving his command.

Tigers take "Kade Scivicque", which might be the coolest name so far.

The Second Coming of Mariano Rivera, RHP, Iona (NY), right/right

MLB.com:
Being the son of the greatest closer in the history of the game can be tough for a pitcher trying to find his way. After two pedestrian seasons at Iona, there may not have been thoughts of following in dad's footsteps. But a breakout junior campaign has put Rivera Jr. firmly on the radar. Rivera has seen a big jump in his velocity, cranking his fastball up to 97 mph this spring. He sat in the 92-95 mph range more often than not. His slider shows glimpses of being at least above-average and could sharpen with more time and experience. He's shown a splitter in the bullpens, but a lack of feel for the offspeed pitch has kept him from using it in games. He's generally around the strike zone, though his overall command suffers as games go on. Rivera's size and slight build lead to the inevitable concerns about durability. His power stuff, not to mention his pedigree, point to a future as a reliever in the pro ranks.

196th on Kiley McDaniel's board. Kiley's writeup from September 2014:
"Little Mo was mostly 88-90 last year and appeared to be a courtesy draft by the Yankees in the 29th round last June.  This summer, reports from the NECBL have him sitting 90-92, touching 94 mph and some are wondering if he’s a late-bloomer like his father."

He lived on my floor freshman year at Quinnipiac, was kind of a douche and wasn't good back then. Seems as if he's turned it around, good for him.

I hope he's also less of a douche.

Probably not? Trent went to high school in Charlotte, NC, while Matt was raised in Michigan. Something like a 15-year age difference.

Very little info on Hearn. From what I can find, this is the 4th time he's been drafted. Big, project able lefty. Small sample and can't tell much, but looks the part here.

Last year he pitched 64.1ip 9-0 3.50era 71/33 k/bb 43h. .191 ba against. Solid numbers and looks like he played for an NAIA power. He committed to Oklahoma at one point and according to perfect game, topped out at 87 as a junior in HS.

Nice. I was afraid he'd be a left-handed version of Jake Johansen, drafted based on build, size and velocity, but this guy's actually had success in college, and the 5th round is a better place to draft a guy like this as opposed to the 2nd round.

Matt Crownover, LHP, Clemson

No MLB.com or FanGraphs scouting report

PerfectGame.org:
LHP with Highest Level Pitchability, Good Delivery, FB low to higher 90s. Outstanding at many PG events. PG All American Game

Giants drafted him in the 21st round last year. Although he has hit 94mph in the past, his Clemson bio says "Lefthander who is not overpowering, but uses his control to be effective". Tommy John surgery a few years ago.

Like the early emphasis on outfielders.  A lot of guys in the minors like Goodwin just haven't panned out and we're a bit weaker there than at other positions.  Additionally, outside of RF, the future is not set at either of the other outfield positions so this seems like very smart drafting.
