Javier Baez had inferior numbers to both Souza and Taylor and he's started everyday since he was called up.  And Baez was in the PCL, the league for offense.

Maybe because the Cubs are in last place.

Then call someone else up!  Don't waste them on the bench.  There are a number of players in Syracuse who could fill the role of benchwarmers.

Subway should sign him for a commercial for the sub.  Trout can push some tuna thing, and Taylor can push the old BMT.

By calling up Taylor you make him eligible for the post season. Taylor's defense and base running would be far more valuable than Hairston at this point.

Maybe I am too conservative, but facing Wood and/or Kimbrel on National TV would not have been my ideal introduction to MLB.  Woods delivery is very difficult to pick up and Kimbrel is Kimbrel.

I will say that Werth looked like he could have used the additional day off (along with today's off day).  But i would have gone Harper in right and Frandsen or Hairston in LF.

Could have just called up Perez.

Honestly, Taylor needed as many at bats in the minors as possible. To let him sit up here on the bench and do nothing while Werth limps around the field is dumb.

Sure they could have brought up Perez, but Perez wouldn't be an upgrade over Hairston. I don't think a week in the bigs will hurt Taylor's development.

If this is temporary, fine, even good- it makes him eligible for the post season and he gets a taste of the majors with no pressure or expectations. If he becomes a  long term fixture on the bench, not so good

First off, Hariston is hitting .275 against LHP. That's what he's here to do.

Second, if you simply wanted an upgrade in speed and defense, Perez would have been more than enough. The fact that they called up Taylor means they're looking for someone who can hit righties and play the outfield. So why the hell is Werth gimping around the bases in a game Matt Williams has basically forfeited, when 23 year old Michael Taylor is on the bench.

Unless rules changed after 2013, Taylor could have been on the post-season roster even if he was not called up in August. Teams get to replace guys on the DL at 8/31 who are still on the DL at season end with guys on the 40 man roster as of 8/31.

How about we let him continue to develop. We also have other pitchers to start a game or two.

A.J. Cole has been talked about on this board as a bullpen arm for the end of the year, not a starter. We have plenty of starters already, since Tanner Roark might get bumped to the 'pen in the playoffs.

which would be a travesty esp if its Gio getting his spot. Roark deserves it more than Strasburg at this point.

Padres to call up top prospect Rymer Liriano

Again, like Baez, who wants to bet that he doesn't rot away on the Padres bench.  Yes, I know they're in 4th place/5th place/not contending for a playoff spot...but that just makes it worse.  We're watching Jayson Werth hobble around on a bad ankle with a bum shoulder play while one of your top five prospects (two of them, counting Souza) keep the bench from flying away.

This is some of the worst player development I have ever seen.

We have plenty of bullpen arms available. We do not need to risk the development of one of  the better pitching prospects in baseball for a bullpen guy.

STFU. This team has had some fantastic player development. On top of that, who do you bench for a length of time? Harper? Talk about crappy player development. Once again, you show that you have no idea what you're talking about . .

lol, Zimmermann, Zimmerman, Desmond, Harper, Storen, Barrett, Roark, Fister, Span, Rendon and Gio mock you

Which one of these was posted when you were on your meds and which one when you were off?

...and Gio was developed in Oakland, Fister in Seattle, Span in Minnesota.  None of the others were called up just to sit on the bench.  They were called up, they played.

Not clear on this "playoff" eligibility. If a player isn't brought up until Sept, does that make him ineligible for post-season?
