Williams comes across like he doesn't know crap.

Agree.  Deer in the headlights.

He needed it off today, it seemed like it even before this game.

freaking ass team. Matt Williams doesn't seem like he is capable of getting them out of the funk.

He made it seem like magically they would just start playing like world beaters.  That rarely happens.  There needs to be some impetus to make them play better.  Be it a benching, a public or even private scolding whathaveyou.

MLB Network discussing our defensive woes now.  Harold Reynolds is in the "Desmond needs to get in his routine" camp.

The Blue Jays issued eight walks to the Twins in one inning tonight, combined with multiple wild pitches, and gave the game away. At least we have company for the most embarrassing performance of the night.

As embarrassing as we have been over the last 10 seasons we've never had anything like that. Of the first 10 hitters to come to the plate in that inning only one was retired and that was on a sac bunt. Of the other 9, 8 walked and one singled.

So I couldn't watch the game (see Mitlen it's not my being in the gamethread that makes them play poorly!) and I saw the score and thought blech but reading these comments about Williams is SO much more troubling, did he really seem like a deer in the headlights?? SO worrisome  :nervous:
I knew they should have hired Dave Martinez I knew it!!! If Williams sucks it up as manager we are freaking DOOMED!!!!!

The only thing I'd fault Williams on is that it didn't seem like they had a game plan to work counts against Wainwright.  I don't know what Harper was thinking with the bunt attempt on the first pitch he saw.  Overall though, it's not Williams' fault that his team played like crap, and with the way Wainwright pitched tonight, Williams could have fielded an all-star team with three Mike Trouts and still lost.  I did notice that he didn't sub anyone out late, he didn't seem to be in the mood to give anyone a break.

The stat of the day was that the Cards left 14 men on base, it could have been much much worse.

Agreed. Play the kids. Give Desmond a break. I'm visiting the grandchildren near St Louis...also my son and daughter-in-law, but the 7 and 3-year olds plus the two-month old: they are the big draw.

(1) Of course, we watch the Cardinals pre-game. Entire show devoted to "the comeback" in the 2012 playoffs. As if no other team ever won a playoff. I've learn to dislike -- loathe -- the Cardinals. The team, their fans, and their pomposity. They make Yankee fans and the YES Network seem pleasant. Beat these river-scum. Talk like they are back-to-back-to-back World Series champs in 2012, 2013, and 2014 already. The Yankees are 27 time World Champions, but Yankee announcers don't puff like these Cardinal clowns.

(2) Cardinals announcers emphasizing that the Nats are a good team "on paper", have a good rotation "on paper", that "everyone" picks the Nats to win the pennant this season, then quote Davey's "World Series or bust" and add, "2013 was a bust".  Maybe I'll have to do a Casey Stengel,  but I think Boston -- not St Louis -- won the World Series last year. "You can look it up".

(3) Cardinals announcers roaring with glee when Harper tried to bunt in the first inning, and did not get the bunt in a good place. It's as if Bryce Harper is a failure unless he hits a Hondo-sized home run.

(4) Cardinals watched Desmond's error on the first play and said that he was taking extra fielding practice and bobbling everything.

(5) Haven't looked to see who is pitching tomorrow, but I hope Fister returns soon.

by the time Wainwright hit his 2B, most of the fans left were Cards fans.
