Happy Harper return day!
Except they should bench him.  Lefty starter.

No Christmas card from Span this year

Quote
Harper, in fact, reiterated that point on Monday. He said he found out Williams’ lineup on Twitter and respects his skipper’s decision to put him back in left. That said, he thinks the Nats’ best lineup is a little different than the one constructed on Monday.

“I’m in the lineup, that’s all that matters. If I had the lineup it would maybe not be the same. But he’s got the lineup card, he’s got the pen and he knows what he’s doing. There’s nothing I can do about it,” he said.

Harper explained that point further.

“I think [Zimmerman] is great and he should be playing left. Rendon’s a great third baseman and he should be playing third. And we got one of the best second basemen in the league in Danny Espinosa. Of course you want the best hitting lineup in there, and I think Rendon playing third and Zim playing left is something that is good for this team and I think that should be what’s happening.”

Williams had the message relayed to him and was measured in his response.

“We’re happy to have him back,” he said. “I don’t have any comment other than that. We’re glad to have him in our lineup and hopefully I can write his name in there every single day for the rest of the year. That would be very important to our club.”[/qupte]

Not the smartest thing he's ever said chemistry-wise, but he's on point.

Chemistry-wise, what he said was a major freak up.

Chemistry wise he sided with Espinosa over span, not sure we know how the rest of the club House feels

Zimmerman has said he prefers left and Anthony is better at third.

Chemistry wise he sided with Espinosa over span,

I'm not even sure he's smart enough to have thought through the repercussions of what he said.  I think though he should be smart enough to know that he's not smart enough to be running his mouth.

Frankly, I don't care what he babbles about.  When he's in the line-up, the Nats are better.  I just want him to stay healthy and help the Nats win.

Yeah, he'd fit right in here. Interview or WNFF post?

I have historically defended him against the media since he was drafted but he is acting like a complete turd. Kid needs to shut up and focus on getting better at baseball.

I don't like that he kinda sorta threw Span under the bus but freak it, he's back in the lineup and he's hitting and the team is scoring runs and winning games.

Very surprising comments by Harper. I've always thought of him as fairly intelligent and extremely savvy with the media for someone of his youth and inexperience. But he really stepped in it. Williams should shred him a new one.

:lmao: Managers haven't had that kind of power over stars for years (decades?). Williams can shred a guy who rides the bench or is barely in the majors, but what happens if a guy like Harper tells him to freak off? Would he send him to the minors? Bench him? What manager would pick a fight they can't win? Maybe Harper should have more respect for the game (like his ped using manager?)

Uh, he benched him just earlier this year. But maybe shredding him a new one was a bit too strong. He should just give him a good talking to. ;)

He benched him for a game, I'm sure is chastened him (or pissed him off enough to cause trouble when he saw the chance)

I don't agree with everything Harper has done but this is just over the top from Boz. Pretty shameful.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/thomas-boswell-bryce-harper-returns-to-the-nationals-with-attitude/2014/06/30/4cd30d60-00aa-11e4-b8ff-89afd3fad6bd_story.html

This quote nails it for me:

"If Harper were 10 years more established in deeds, not dolls, it’d be audacious to manage a team after being on the DL for more than half of the Nats’ previous 193 games. But to do it with one homer halfway into a season?"

Thanks for posting this sf.
