The Cubs are looking to the trade market in their search for relievers and have eyed both Tyler Clippard and Drew Storen of the Nationals, among others, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times (on Twitter).

Clippard, 28, is controlled through the 2015 season and has a 2.73 ERA with 10.3 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 over the past five seasons. Storen, 26, may have fallen out of favor to an extent with the Nats in 2013 following a career-worst 4.52 ERA and a brief demotion to the minors. The former No. 10 overall pick owns a career 3.40 ERA with 8.4 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 since being promoted in 2010, however.

This is crazy talk.  Storen is at his low-value point now, not a good time to trade.   Clippard is simply too valuable, period.

If he keeps up his typical performance, how big a contract will Clip get in free agency two years from now?

If he makes it to fee agency healthy, then he makes 3/$30MM from a team looking for a closer.  A dumb one.

I'd say 3/$30mil on the open market.

If we get an additional two solid years from him, he'll be used up, so it won't matter.

It he's the closer next year, we might even get a draft pick out of him if the going rate is three years. Maybe that'll make up for losing one for Soriano.

Starting pitcher, shortstop, and/or relievers.

I think the Dodgers are looking to move Either. Who I don't really want.

Eithier was the name mentioned on MLB TV as well.    They discussed Kemp and Puig too  ...   briefly.   :)    Made it clear Puig ain't goin' anywhere.

Rizzo's clearly going to con Colleti into giving us kemp for Jordan, karns, Espinosa, and Soriano.  Heck, we'll even eat all of kemp's contract

For those wondering about what we'd give up for Trumbo. this is the kind of dreck Trumbo is actually worth.

Yea, so, the Angels are overvaluing Trumbo?  I pity the team who will give up top prospects for a guy who can't get on base, but once in a while hits a home run.  He is a better fielding Adam Dunn, but the White Sox version of Big Donkey.

Now appears that if #Nationals sign a LH reliever, it will be Howell or Downs. Other clubs getting feeling O'Flaherty will go back to Braves

Well that sucks.  I'd rather him sign with someone else outside the NL East as he has owned the Nats.

I want Downs just to have an Expo back before they go extinct in the coming years.

Tigers signed Rajai Davis and the D-backs traded for Choo.  We got to jump on him.
