we're in contention without great backups at the position- I would hope Ramos isn't dealt for prospects

VERY expensive. Nats want to win now, and for a while, and can. To get our lead catcher, you'd have to give us back a lead catcher, and replace his offense, and the only places we can improve our offense is someone better than Span or LaRoche. We would have to get back an offensive package that is better than Ramos +1 (Span or LaRoche), so that would be a normal catcher bat, plus a REALLY good bat, and that doesn't include the value of him being cost controlled and we would have to then eat Span or Laroche's contracts.

The more I think about it, the more expensive it becomes, and maybe I am overvaluing and not taking into account injury history, but I think it would have to be a heck of a package. Dont see it happening. The type of team that would trade Ramos is one that is a few years away and would trade him for a package of prospects. Nats are not that team.

Because it's typical of Alex Anthopoulis. He checks on the availability of just about everybody.

Jeff Baker was just DFA'd by the Rangers. Dude mashes lefties. Get him. Platoon him with Laroche or Harper.

If I'm  Rizzo, as soon as he mentions Ramos, I ask if Bautista can still play  3d. ;)

Agreed! A super platoon of Chad Tracy, Chad Tracy, and Chad Tracy would be great!

So Lardbunion thinks the Nats could use Rendon as a trade centerpiece for Price.  If that is the case, they better either trade for Howie Kendrick as well or hope that Espinosa can turn into something more than a middling power and low avg and obp guy.

That would be a crazy rotation though.

Not sure why the Rays would want Rendon when they have Zoberist.

I really think this Price trade stuff is crap. If they trade him, they're punting the season. With the new revenue shari g rules taking effect, the Rays will be able to pay him.

Even though I started the recent Price discussion,  I kind of doubt we have the horses to pull it off.   however, Rendon would play 2d and Zobrist would play either OF (where he has played a lot) or SS, depending on other roster moves.

I would say Rendon, Detwiler, Goodwin and Giolito would net Price and Jake McGee.

Replace Det with Cole and add a major league reliever like Krol or Storen.

Sure, adding another great SP would be beneficial.  But that leaves a gaping hole at 2b.  They will then just lose more 2-1 and 1-0 games.  Why give up on some of the best young talent the Nats have to add to a current strength?

I'm not advocating a Price deal. I'm merely saying what would be required to get the Rays to listen. I anticipate a team like the Rangers getting desperate and making a stupidly large offer for him that we could never match anyway, so meh.

And I doubt that Howie Kendrick is an option either. I do think that LA will trade him now that they have a prospect to replace him in Grant Green, but I think KC is gonna make a big offer for him ahead of anyone else.

Think the angels will be willing to trade for prospects?  Spending the kind of money laa is I'd be guessing they will want MLB ready guys.  Not sure how many of those kc has.

That dude they called up at the end of the season. Yordano Ventura. I think he's a mega hot shot prospect.

Zoberist's bat isn't anything special in LF/RF. His value lies at second base and that's assuming this past season was an anomaly and not his age setting in. And if it is, they have Hak-Ju Lee waiting in the wings.

I don't see the Rays wanting another 4/5 starter in a  trade for Price. They have a lot of pitching. Price missed a handful of starts, and they had plenty of pitching to cover it up. Moore, Hellickson, Cobb, Archer, and a deep farm system (Odorizzi, Colome, Romero). They have plenty of pitching for the rotation and the bullpen.

What they lack is another corner  outfield bat so they can keep Zoberist at second and a first base bat. I don't know that anyone has that to spare. The Nats sure don't.
