I have a friend who likes to say Werth is the most important player in the history of the Nats. I don't go that far but his point is that no one took the Nats seriously (especially other FA) until they frankly overpaid him. And while I'm not a big fan of his personality (he comes across as rather aloof, though people who know him say otherwise) I think he has made a definite impact on the organization. Running guys like Nyger Morgan of out here was enough for me. ;)

Teddy will forever love JWerth. I agree he's changed the culture around here. He also likes Harper. But he is becoming a slow old player. We clocked him leaving the field between innings: he averages almost 40 seconds. Sometimes he takes a full minute.

Stupid greedy pro atheletes who want to get paid what they're worth. They should be more loyal like teams who stick by players even when they get injured or struggle

Point well made but I would  "greedy pro athletes who want to get over paid by what some idiot team will give them

Their greed is only exceeded by my jealousy ...I admit it though am not proud of it

He's got enough juice to be a good supporting piece in our World Series run. He will end his DC career with a ring and a parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Zuck on the chances of Werth returning next year:

Quote
The Jayson Werth story is going to be an interesting one to watch over the next few weeks. Here's my sense of the situation: He'd like to come back for another season. But it would only happen if he took a significant pay cut, and a significant reduction in expected playing time. As it stands right now, the Nats are going to have a healthy Bryce Harper, Adam Eaton, Michael A. Taylor, Brian Goodwin, Victor Robles, Rafael Bautista and Andrew Stevenson in 2018. That's a lot of outfield depth. They can't afford to have Werth taking up a spot (and money) that needs to be devoted to someone else. So, it's going to be complicated.

It won't be complicated at all.  He's not going to be back here in 2018.

Unless he agrees to be the new Terrance.

He'll be back -- as a coach.  Nobody's going to make a significant offer to a guy who's going to be 39 next year and hit .245 or worse over the last 3 years, and he won't want to move his family to be a part-time player somewhere.

:wtf:
There is this pipedream amongst some Nats fans that Werth will become some sort of coach. Not sure why. Really don't want my new hitters doing the patented Werth swing, miss, pirouette, duck back to the dugout, get in over priced car and get nailed for speeding down 495 patented move.

I think he has value but not for the Nats. We have too much talent in the outfield. I think only way he comes back is if he agrees to a pinch hitter role and to be the fifth out fielder behind Goodwin. And I think if someone goes down with a long-term injury they'll consider starting Difo out there. I don't think Werth will agree to what may be a 25th man position.

I think an AL team with a weak outfield will look at his OBP and convince themself he is a good one year holdover as a fourth outfielder and table setter.

Nobody has ever suggested a player replace Terrance.  That's the best role for Werth going forward.
