he was tugged the whole way down the field.  So he might not have been tugged in the end zone.  no way it isn't interference, only question is where to place the ball.   So we get the ball at the 5 instead of the 1

The replay did not show he was being tugged down the field. It was a bad call.

rule was called right.  Bad rule, now gone, but don't b!tch about a correct call.

I've seen a similar play be ruled a fumble.

But speaking of bad rules, the new rules about hits to the head are the reason the Patriots lost Rob Gronkowski to a bad injury today. The NFL should be ashamed of forcing defenders to go low on pass catchers and risk ending careers.

If I see a replay again and there's no contact, I'll admit it. When I saw the replay, I thought there was no question he was tugging at him from about the 20 to about the 5.  I'm not sure there was contact in the end zone.

Today was when the steelers needed Tomlin to step onto the field to force a player to swerve away from the sideline.

  Not even close. I just went back to look at it and the only time there was contact was at the 5 when the receiver sticks out his arm (possibly to create separation) and the db slaps his hand away. It was a horrible call.

Pats have been absolutely reamed by calls all this year.  Literally lost 2 games on final play calls (Jets and Carolina).  I've never b!tched about calls until the past few weeks.  In the Houston game, the refs blew interference on a punt reception too.  Don't get me wrong - the ref stunk in this game too, and blew calls earlier.   Heck, folks outside NE have been talking about it more than the Boston papers.

Sad thing is, the biggest common thread between this call and the Carolina call (and the call in Houston) is where was the game played.

The problem is they were jocking for position all the way downfield which wasn't called (and I think correctly so), but they called it for what looked like him grabbing the receiver around the waist but it was pretty weak contact and I don't think it interfered with his ability to get to the ball. And it put Cleveland in such a bad position, it practically ensured victory for NE.

Even if we're going to call that PI, my biggest gripe is that what they call PI isn't consistent week to week, or even catch to catch. Also that I don't think Cleveland gets that call if teams were reversed. I just don't have the faith in the league/officials to be impartial to that extent, sadly.

Any of you watch the CBS feed during the game or are you watching the NFL.com or NBC replays?   There's a nice end zone angle of the contact all the way down the field.  The NFL.com replay shows the grabbing at the end of the play.

I don't disagree that PI has not been called consistently or well all year.   The simplest rule is contact 5 yards down field, but that is often ignored.  Back to the Carolina / Pats game - that contact with Gronk was 20+ yards down field.  At least call the 5 yard rule and give another play.

That sounds like what the steelers' lineman was doing.

Some rules are called sparingly -  every play has holding or pi, most refs are judicious with flags.

Went to the Eagles-Lions game in Philly yesterday.  My first time to a game there in 30 years and was quite the event.  Right as we were leaving the hotel to drive to the stadium the forecasters said nothing would start until half time and would be just limited snow and ice.  Then we got to stadium at 11 and the blizzard conditions started.  Eight inches snow at the Linc.  Visibility was much improved in seocnd half as were the Eagles.  They basically scored 5 touchdowns in about a quarters worth of action which was remarkable in the conditions.

Need Chicago to beat the Cowgirls tonight.  Or maybe the Redskins can do that in a couple weeks?

Ditka in the house tonight...50 years since he helped the Monsters of the Midway win a title.

His jersey retirement is long overdue, but well timed just the same...

Yep, especially since he played and coached for both teams.

I had forgotten he spent a couple of forgetable years with the Eagles until I saw him interviewed yesterday morning; said he was hurt most of that time.

yes, you are absolutely right about some rules being called sparingly, expecially when they could determine a game outcome.  Like pushing your own guy on the line of scrimmage during a field goal attempt.  To my recollection, that has been called only once and it decided a game.

I never knew Ditka had played for the eagles.     I don't think I've ever seen footage of him in an eagles uniform.

Money.  And they didn't give players choices in those days.

Maybe they should bring back the Steagles,
