A look at each player along with an NL scout's take on each. Still worried about Rendon.

Goodwin defense in CF described as " but he can play well enough out there."

Kimball 88-90. Not anywhere near he was. Still needs time.

Prospects always get mixed reviews.  Don't take the bad ones that bad and don't take the good ones too well.  These guys are trying to read the future in projecting these guys.  If it was easy, then there wouldn't be a billion different scouts all using different methodology to evaluate players.

Torn labrum. He may never be what he once was.

Nice shot for Goodwin. Is tendon on the roster for this game?

He still has talent though, I'd give him more time.

No Rendon?  An outrage.

This Goodwin kid is the real deal.  One more year to hone in on lefty's and better offspeed stuff at AAA, but 2014 he starts in CF.

Should be in pretty soon. Goodwin gave that one a ride. I've been impressed with his plate discipline so far.

Barrett in now.
And done after two batters.
Went 89-92 on the fastball with good sink.
Slider 81-85, left it up once and it got slapped in to LF, threw a couple good ones to the outside corner and got a K on his second batter.

Not sure what to make of Barrett... from the camera view it seemed obvious when he was going to throw a breaking ball... I'm hoping it's hidden a bit more to the hitter.

Nats take ZERO CF this offseason.  This kid is going to be a MLB silver slugging CF.

I absolutely love his swing. So quick and compact. I didn't think he hit it that hard but it was absolutely plastered. Off a wonky lefty too.

Rendon looks like a shorter version of Zimmerman.

Rendon looks like a shorter version of Zimmerman.

He almost never swings at the first pitch like Zim. I've heard that comparison a lot though.

So in summary.
Goodwin 2-5 2B, HR, 2 K, 2 R.
- Showed great plate discipline, great power, hit another one to the warning track that Billy Hamilton got to.
Rendon 0-1
- Hard hit ball that he got under to left.
Barrett .1 IP 1 H 1 ER 1 K
- Allowed a single and got a K then got pulled. The runner came around to score but it wasn't his fault.

How is Goodwin so strikeout prone with such a short swing?

his strike out rate jumped and walk rate fell when he reached AA.  He was 1:1 or BB>K in A+.  He may consolidate a bit by repeating AA.
