So, we're saying that a $76 million payroll is too much for this franchise?

^I'm guessing this won't net out to be a salary dump by any stretch.

Well, they HAVE to trade him now.  They don't have an option...unless they send him to Syracuse.  He still has an option remember.

I'd be okay with Lannen + cash for Marlon Byrd. We'd get a center fielder/lead off hitter for a season and with Jackson we'd of improved our pitching even more. If the FO believes we are a CF/leadoff guy away from making a push for the wildcard spot then I'm all for this move.

And a $5 million salary- either wang or lannan has to go now

I don't see how it's a 'salary dump'... I'm mostly in the LAC camp, but moving Lannan, while at a reasonable contract, for a CF, then signing E-Jax to a 7-8 million dollar contract isn't a move to cut costs.

Awesome. Now we can deal from strength. A CF is coming boys. Just wait and see.

You can trade either Wang, Det or Lannan, or a combination. Wang is not worth much though.

If they prefer a more balanced rotation... they could end up moving Wang instead of Lannan to give us 3 RHP and 2 LHP.

Well Edwin Jackson as your 4th starter isn't bad at all.  After reading Dave Cameron's article and looking again at the stats after Linty posted I am starting to come around on this.  I just hope we aren't dumping Lannan for a crap return.

This math works for me. How about you, linty?

Just because the net result isn't negative doesn't make it not a salary dump.  The fact that they signed another starter makes it not a salary dump.

I imagine whatever offers we had on the table for Lannan may have just dropped with the news of the Jackson signing.

Teams know we have to move him.. why not lower the offer a bit?

The timing is a bit unusual.

Theoretically we could still stash Lannan in AAA, but I think he's done enough for the Nats to deserve the chance to pitch in the bigs for another team.

our rotation is sick, the pen is good ... the offense, well, needs to get better.

Surprisingly he's not... I thought he was as well, until I looked at his stats.

BB/9 past three years
Jackson - 2.94, 3.35, 2.79
Lannan - 2.97, 3.08, 3.70
