It is the Yu deadline.

I don't see it. We match up at the corners but not middle.

that's debateable beacuse Utley probably won't stay healthy for a full year.  Utley is also above average on defense whereas Espi is orgasmic

He hasn't denied anything.

The man can't say anything about this until it's done.

Is that hard to understand? This is typical GM talk. Comack is just doing her diligence.

This quote seems to have been glossed over:

But when I get asked the question: Does Prince Fielder help the club? Of course he helps the club.

That's where the GM comes in, Mike.

The only person here who doesn't know that is sportsfan, and sportsfan is sportsfan.

Why are you wasting your time on all of us awful people anyway?

Clearly either Rizzo is lying or the media is a bunch of clueless clowns.  And it has to be the latter because I can't see Rizzo lying so blatantly and then turning around and signing Fielder.  He'd look like a fool with no credibility.   And you can say "so the media is a bunch of clueless clowns, what else is new" but I don't think that explains it away. So many people so convinced that this was a reality. I really don't  see how that happens.

In any case, forget about Fielder. Ain't happening.   I wish we could turn all this  energy to  leadoff/centerfielder/shortstop/starting pitcher.    All the resources we would have otherwise spent on Fielder can still be put to good use.

Either way, that quote is worth noting.

I still maintain that we are plan B if Boras can't find a better offer.  The deal is probably already done and Rizzo/Lerners are just waiting to see if Boras comes up with something better.

That is how this has felt all along. The Nats have an offer on the table that Boras considers low and is just waiting for someone to beat it and to this point no one wants to. It is what happened with Boras when he had his winter long staring contest with the Cardinals over Holliday.

So you're telling me he doesn't look like a fool with no credibility right now? Willing to keep LaRoche, instead of become a contender?....

he never started this conversation, we did. I'm not about to turn on Rizzo (well anymore than I already have) because he fails to sign a player he never professed interest in and who frankly doesn't fill any big holes. Fielder would be a nice piece and he would help us improve, but the same can be said of any number of free agents we passed on since his tenure- fielder won't be the big one who got away to me

Maybe this is the source of the mysterious 'done deal' tweets.

I half agree, but to think he's willing to settle for LaRoche is a complete joke. $100 we lose LaRoche before the All-Star break AGAIN.

This is not going to be Rizzo's decision. It is up to the Lerners to decide whether or not to offer the necessary money. Why are people so focused on what Rizzo says and does?

This is kind of how I feel.  In a way I of feel bad for the Nats because I think they've never wanted Fielder and the longer it goes on with them tied to it by speculation, the more of a PR nightmare it becomes.  It also gives Rizzo more time to talk himself in circles and say he's not interested in improving the team.

The chances of the Nats signing Fielder dropped from about 10% chance before today to about 1%. Not going to happen. Please lock this thread up.

Time to go after Ryan Madsen so we can have a shut down bullpen :hang:

It is known that the Lerner's met with Boras. If it wasn't about Fielder was it about Jackson, Ankiel, Madson, or a plot by Boras to make other teams think the Nats were involved?
