and LH specialist.

He's a righty thrower but don't worry, we can train him to be a switch pitcher

why is there's no demand for Ryan Madson?  he'd make a nice addition to our pen.

If nobody steps up I wouldn't mind adding him but only if the market drops to the point where he can be had for an AAV of $7 million or less and be willing to be a set-up guy again

Clippard is the set-up man... no need for Madson. Waste of precious resources (i.e. money that could be spent elsewhere).

That's a bit of an optimistic prediction for the Marlins I think.

from mlbtr:  When asked if Adam LaRoche will be the Nationals first baseman in 2012, Rizzo replied flatly: "That is correct." The Nationals have been mentioned as a possible suitor for Prince Fielder this offseason.

For what it is worth (not much), I have a gut feeling that the Nats signing of Prince Fielder happens.

On paper, this team is legitimate contenders for a Wild Card berth, without Fielder. I like this team's chance for 90 wins without him. I firmly believe 90 wins puts the Nats in the postseason. A full year of Strasburg (limited innings), a healthy Ryan Zimmerman, and a Jayson Werth hitting even .250, the team would have been 5 games better last year, at least.

My point is this....if this team signs Prince, look out. The NL East is going to be a dog fight (excluding the Mets).

I doubt we make this move. If we didn't sign Werth last year it'd make sense but with us already having one 20+ million a year guy on the payroll and Zimmerman will soon be 20+ million a year guy on the payroll we can't afford a third right now that'd be a huge jump in payroll. It'd make more sense to wait for Harper and Rendon to develop and become our impact bats.

I would agree with you if the Nats weren't about to get a significant influx of cash via the MASN deal.

Our time is now.

We need to be smart about signing players to huge contracts until we extend Zim. Because whatever we sign Fielder too Zim is going to want atleast that per year.

Based on....?

Based on he's been a Nat his whole career, is one of the best third basemen in the league, he'll get atleast 20+ mil on the open market and is worth more to the franchise's fan base than any other players out there. Plus it's a pride thing I'm sure he feels he's the best player on the team so he'll want to be making the most money.

I agree with the first part but the last sentence doesn't make anything so. We don't know what he feels and how his emotions reflect what he wants.

More SIGN FIELDER advocacy  8) :

http://www.examiner.com/sports-business-in-washington-dc/nats-appear-one-fielder-away-from-years-of-contention-sro-ballpark

And so what if Zim wants to get paid?  Look at the Phillies; they've let some guys go, but they're paying big contracts to their key guys and have had some players make reasonable deals to stick with a contender during their window.  The Lerners get all of the ballpark revenue, which very few others do, and they also didn't have to float money in advance to build it.  They ran payroll down to ridiculous levels and are only now bringing them back to the level they were when they moved.  Don't act like the Nationals can't afford to pay to extend the core of a contender.  If so, I hope Boz and every other local media seamhead breaks down the numbers consistently to show how the Lerners can easily pay what's needed after years of money savings maneuvers.  If they come up short at this point, they need to be hounded and embarrassed, because they don't deserve the stewardship of the team.
