Well, I've also seen that same behavior from high strung people with severe ADD too though.  What leads me to believe it's something else is that you don't hear about any hijinks outside of baseball.  It's entirely possible he's just an immature, ultracompetitve lunatic like Lenny Dykstra.  I'm just glad I don't live with him either way.

Amen

I would imagine it's exhausting in the clubhouse ultimately either way

My mom's not doing so great these days. She's getting up there in age and it seems to get harder and harder to maintain. It's like trying to hold a beach ball under water. If you don't stay on top of it, bam, the ball gets away and you sink right to the bottom. We're trying some new things, we'll see how that goes.

I hope your family member is well and continues to be so

He could also just be an unmedicated azzclown.

Where I grew up, he would be considered just another loudmouth punk and he would get his ass kicked by one of his teammates. Werth came close apparently so his stock rose with me.

I suspect that Morgan is borderline crazy. There is nothing team management can do or not do.

This year, we saw the same old Nyjer Morgan in his attempts to insult Pujols. Pathetic. Morgan is barely a major leaguer; Morgan stomped his glove while the ball was in play; Pujols is a first ballot Hall of Famer.

FTFY

I agree 100% by the way.

I do however dislike all the hate on Werth. True, he's far from performed up to his contract standards, but at the same time, give the guy a one season brake. If he's terrible next year, it's officially a bust of Hampton-esque levels. I really haven't seen anything from Werth that makes me think he's some kind of arrogant ass hat, but I didn't get to watch every game, so I may have missed something. True, it was agonizing to watch him stare befuddled after watching yet another meatball cross the plate, but that still doesn't make him an jerk. No matter what, his bat might not of shone liked we hoped it would have, but it never seemed to effect his hustle. The guy plays all-out every night.

I really hope Werth redeems himself next season, but I do realize he quite possibly might not. That would suck, but we have another year to find out.... or six.

--Clashed with Morgan in spring training - many will say that is a good thing but the bottom line is that he chased out a guy who ended up having a better year.
--Clashed with Riggleman - many will say that is a good thing, but clashing with a manager makes everyone look bad.
--Resisted infield defensive practice - of all thing, why did Werth care about Riggleman having worst defense from 2010 practice when he plays in the outfield???
--Didn't like that Riggleman broke up a post game beer bash after a June win.
--Blamed his poor hitting on the FO not getting him video tapes of his swing early enough in March.
--Expressed his feelings that missing the playoffs was a good thing because he needs the extra time to prepare for next season.
--Has Zimmerman lobbying for him to play RF next year because CF is to strenuous.
--Various complaints of rudeness toward fans.
--Strutted and posed like Derek Zoolander every time he struck out.

Lots of piddly little things, but they add up to a lot of things, all of which are easily ignored if he wasn't one of the highest paid players in the league who played like crap.

Re rudeness toward fans. Werth was at the STH Picnic in the Park event and was extremely friendly and charming with the fans. Smiling and everything.

My one comment on this thread is, WTF do we care about what Nyjer says?  Even if you hate Werth, consider the source.  Why is this thread continuously drawing comments?  I want it to drop into thread oblivion.  Move on.

You're quite right. Morgan is a bum, a fast bum, but a bum nonetheless. It's clear that some people also hate Werth and have made their agenda clear. I understand being pissed at his hitting this year, but... whatever. I'll take Werth at his cost over Morgan and what he costs in terms of salary and douchebaggery any day of the week.

I think it is strong and a tad harsh to criticize someone for having their own opinion. When Nyjer first came to Washington, every one was canonizing him for his spectacular play. When he did a few actions some people deemed disgraceful, they automatically kicked him away and wanted no part of him on the team. Nyjer is definitely a guy I see marching to the beat of his own drum and people will never accept him for who he is because of it. I personally loved seeing Nyjer's passion out there who wasn't afraid to show his true feelings in the given circumstance.
As far as the name calling goes, I don't often evidence to back those claims up as only two major events I recall were the glove slamming incident(where apologized following the game) and the Marlins brawl(which wasn't bad at all if you were to look back at the series.)

I counted no less than TEN players that got plunked because of Nyjer. And then of course there was the brawl that could have caused serious injury to someone.

Passion is great, I'm all for it. But by the time Nyjer left, he was nothing but trouble and worse he was putting the other players AT RISK.

His time was done here. I'm completely fine that he's gone. He'll wear out his welcome in Milwaukee at some point, because that's just who he is.

But really, whatever.  When all is said and done,  he'll just be a nobody that will have a very minimal impact on this league.

He's already in the history books by driving in that RBI Single.

How do you know this and to what do you attribute as the cause for the plunking?

The incidents with St Louis and Florida happened at the end of August and the beginning of September IIRC. The Nationals didn't have as many as 5 players plunked by those teams in retaliation. To say that you counted no less than 10 because of Morgan makes me curious as to who you're referring to.

Neither of those bothered me as much as the running into the catcher after the play was over. I don't vilify Nyjer, but I'm glad he's not a Nat anymore. He says he's all about "hard nosed play", but what he really seems to be about is bringing attention to himself. It's just my opinion.

There were 8 players plunked that I counted from those incidents. At least that's the number that stuck in my head when all this were going down

And then weren't there at least 2 plunkings in Spring Training?

Let's put it this way, philosophically speaking I'm fine with the guy who caused the trouble getting plunked, (though I think plunking a guy in the first place is so freaking stupid and infantile)

But I'm not fine when other players get plunked because of him. Even if it's more than 1 it's too many.

Why do we care if our players are getting plunked? That is a good thing, they can make it to base at a much higher frequency than they usually do. Morgan is helping us by getting free bases. He is kinda like Sean Avery who goads other teams into bad penalties which helps his team.
