Nice read.  I liked his noticing Dunn's decline started with a loss of plate discipline.  He says he became more of a free swinger the past couple of years, and teams now are willing to throw him balls off the plate and on the edge of the zone because he'll swing at them.  Essentially, that was what Eckstein taught him to do - swing more.  we saw it in 2010 when his OBP declined.

What are the ten worst contracts in DC sport history?  I can think of the top four:

1) Juwan Howard: the worst because of the NBA salary cap he killed the Wizards for half a decade.
2) Jaromir Jagr: sunk the Caps, not only due to the shear size of his contract but due to the players the Caps gave up to get him.
3) Jayson Werth: no salary cap in MLB, but he has the longest of the contracts, he didn't produce, and he's old; Werth could end up #1 in a few years.
4) Albert Haynesworth: lots and lots of cash for nothing but headaches, this one wasn't nearly as bad as the top three because it wasn't as high of a percentage of the salary cap and because the team was able to dump him after a couple years.

The biggest thing I noticed about Dunn this season is he got really fat. He even admitted he wasn't in shape.

Gilbert has to be in there for the same reason as Howard

Gil might be in the top ten, but he was gone within a couple years so he didn't have quite the impact of Howard.

Stubb is up there.  Was Shuler a bad contract or bad draft pick?  NFL bad contracts get a lot of attention but don't have quite the impact on the team.

He isn't. His contract is in the top 10 of money still owed the player.

I don't disagree with Jagr obviously, but the Caps didn't give up anything for him.

Why not wait until Werth's tenure in DC is over before making this troll-like declaration?   The other three you cited were granted the same courtesy.  :?

imagine if Rizzo Bowden was a competent negotiator, we could have locked in #8 as well.  Mark Teixeira.

This way, if JW has a good year next year, we can dig up this thread and re-hash it.     Just think this thread has what ...  7 or 8 years of of life possibly left on it.

Since when is money "nothing"?

Paying too much is exactly what makes for a bad contract.

Yes, and yet people are falling all over themselves demanding Rizzo blow big $ on free agent contracts this offseason.  CC!  Reyes!  Wilson!

It seems more of those mega-deals fail than succeed for the clubs giving them.

A Lot depend on a team's ability to absorb them if they turn bad- Lee is still killing the Astros while Burnett has no real bearing on the Yankees ability to spend - given how good our farm is and that we have guys who will demand big money extensions during either a cc or Wilson contract, I'd rather pass, but if you think we can extend players and sign one or the other then the team should go for it

True, I think the Nats can absorb Werth ok but that's about the max.

You guys realize you're mis-attributing the statements and motives of many different people to a singular fictional entity/group/person, right?  :?
