Here is a pretty funny LEGO related thing. This kid is on the back of every recent instruction manual. He's got a few names, but I just call him Win Kid.

Also, I went to Wal-Mart today looking for the new Friends sets, but they didn't have any, despite the two huge signs at the door saying that they would have some on January 1st. I'll check TRU tomorrow, and if I get any, I'll review them.

I bought three of the new Friends sets today. We start with 3933 Olivia's Invention Workshop. Olivia is basically the geek chick of the Friends group.

Judging by the scribbles on the blackboard, Ladson was here recently.

Shelf with chemicals and so forth.

Workbench with a cool set of purple tools, a nifty vice, and a nice pink tool chest.

Table with microscope. I love the microscope design, but Olivia should probably get either a shorter table or a different microscope because it's so tall, she has to stand on something to see through the microscope.

Looks like she's designed an early prototype of Wall-E

Next is 3930 Stephanie's Outdoor Bakery, although it looks more like an ice cream stand to me. It appears that she mainly serves cake and gigantic ice cream sandwiches.

Look at how huge that ice cream sandwich is! JCA appears quite determined though.

And last is 3187 Butterfly Beauty Shop. I quite like this one. It would work quite well in pretty much any town layout, despite the pastel colors; in fact the colors really make it work. That's something that is great about this theme; the assortment of new and/or rare colors. The medium blue, light purple, and very light blue (My camera makes it look white.) are all new colors, and the dark purple, pink, and lime green are quite uncommon colors. Very nice indeed.

There is a bench and a mirror outside, as well as a simple fountain and and a nifty sign.

View from one side.

View from the other side. I'm pretty sure that isn't the way lipstick is actually displayed, but I digress.

View of the interior. There is a large bucket of hair accessories in the middle of the store, a swivel chair and mirror, a hairpiece on a mannequin, a cash register, a makeup display, and the aforementioned lipstick display. There is no roof, but one can't really tell from the front if one is displaying it. I quite like the detailed interior. It's something that normal LEGO sets usually lack. We are also inroduced to the included minidolls here. There is one of the main characters, Emma, here with a hideous purple purse, and the shopkeeper Sarah.

The mirror sticker works surprisingly well. (By the way, see the orange thing in the lower left corner attached to the hair accessory bucket? That's a hair dryer. It's a freaking awesome piece.)

Sarah with her cleverly designed cash register, although I'm a bit curious what the huge red button is.

Hammonds seems confused.

Now on to the new minidoll figures. They have less articulation than traditional minifigs; their legs cannot move independently, and their hands don't swivel. I like them though. They're different, but they're cute and much more human.

They're slightly taller than normal figs.

Sarah and Olivia try to prettify Sportsfan. He's probably not amused.

Olivia and Stephanie hug the very huggable Lord Spider.

Spider is quite used to fangirls though.

Any hopes of them joining the LoD are dashed though when MDS calls them emaciated, assless trannies.

So there is a taste of the new LEGO Friends theme. I'm not going to collect them all, but I'll pick up a few here and there for parts. I hope the theme does well.

I thought spider was going to initiate Olivia into the LoD when she was looking through the microscope, but I guess she was up too high.  Maybe Spidey dupes her by saying, "I've got a microscope for you to check out."

If it weren't for the microscope, I'd say Olivia would make for a heck of a meth lab operator.  Having a good knowledge of tools is necessary to repair your equipment.

Yes, I am in to ice cream.  I was a regular in my residential college's "winter whaliing" ice cream eating contest.  2 person teams, no hands, eating slightly thawed ice cream scoops.  My trick if the ice cream was soft enough was to grab the ball of ice cream in my teeth, lift it, tilt my head back, and just swallow it before the brain freeze hit.  Looked spectacular, but best my team did was second.

Not unless he wants to end up in prison.

It would be a simple way to work in the mummy subplot.

In keeping with the tradition of making SsSers powerful monsters, That Kid is a ferocious orc warrior with a mouth on his torso.

One day, Spider tried to make an especially vicious new potion. He combined such vile ingredients as petrified snow spider, mountain troll stomach acid, ostrich brain, a lump of pink stuff he dug out of the upper intestines of a dead homeless guy, gelatinous demon blood, and corn syrup.

He called in Hammonds the guinea pig to test the new concoction.

It had no ill effect; in fact, he thought it was rather tasty. Spider was very perplexed by this.

Spider made more, bottled it, called it Mountain Dew, and sold it for massive profits.

Can't wait to see myself smiting people with my huge sword and shoving things in my stomach instead of my face.
