The Saloon was in Georgetown then - it had great jazz performers and a great selection of beer.  Now it's on U St

Was there one in DC?  I recall one in Bailey's Crossroads area.

so I google sign of the whale D.C. and go to their site.  The first thing that pops up is a phillies fan tailgate to Nats park on August 20.

Sigh...

It's still there, 19th and M NW, but it is a phillies bar.

I don't recall ever going to a Georgetown bar.  21st Amendment was a place I'd hit once in a while.

I was more the Old Town type, outside of the College Park era.

Those were the good old days.  I don't think that any of those were in Georgetown though.  Rumors is still around, I'm fairly certain that the rest of them got wiped out by the rise of Adams Morgan and Chinatown.  Back in my 20s those were all the hot spots, brings back memories of Rally in the Alley and the bar crawls.  We used to get sloppy drunk.

I don't remember one in DC, but there was one on Rt 50 just inside the Beltway.

Really?  I had no idea that they were still around.  The Saloon was the one bar in Georgetown that I liked.  Big giant beers and great music.  I remember going there after watching Pink Flamingos, attempting to dull all memories of the previous two hours.

we used to do the DC bar crawl all the time.  I lived in Annandale and would take the train with about 30-40 college buddies.  At some point i always found myself alone, usually at the cellar or at lulu's, then I'd head to farragut west and miraculously find half my group sitting there.

That wasn't too bad, it was the sphincter dance that scarred me the most.

I miss The Bayou.

This.  I used to see Love Seed Mama Jump there regularly in the late 90s.

Mr. Smith's was my favorite bar around then, with our server, Miguel, who always hooked us up.

Motorhead at the Bayou the night of the huge blizzard in '96 was fun.  The roadies were all huddled outside working on a case of Strongbow when I got thrown out the door after my friend kissed a marine's GF's tits.  They gave him a pillow and passed me a cider.
