Lee is an ace, Hamels is borderline.

Again, contender doesn't mean you make the playoffs.  And Philadelphia's rotation will be a year older and their offense will be no better.  And Atlanta doesn't have one ace.  They have a couple of number ones but no aces.

...and Philadelphia only has one ace, Halladay.  Lee and Hamels are number ones not aces.

Neither is borderline.  They're arguably both top ten pitchers in all of baseball.  If that's not an ace, I don't know what is.

The thing about Hamels is that he's done quite a bit better this year than past years, so I want to see if it's repeatable or not before he moves into the ace category.

I'm starting to think that the Nats won't do much other than trading Marquis.  Given our pathetic play since Johnson took over, I don't see how the Lerners will be okay with adding instead of subtracting.  And Upton is a particularly tough sell given his Werth/Gomes-like batting average.

He thinks skipping mention of Rizzo is enough to disguise himself.  Gomes has taken over as the new whipping boy after one game.

My threshold for "ace" is between top 4 to 6.  An ace is a really special number one.  Lee and Hamels are outside of that but I do agree they are in the top 10.

If you have too many aces, the whole concept of the ace is cheapened.

Hamels is tied for 5th in war, Lee is 8th

Lee is an Ace.

You see what he's done in the post season. That's invaluable.

Invaluable to a playoff team, but of little relevance to a non-contender.

Where's the much more productive offense coming from?

Sprinkle the players with magic fairy dust shot from the butts of flying unicorns.

I think Mariners fans were pretty pleased with Lee as well last year.

Lee's regular season performance is more than sufficient to warrant interest from anyone.  Post-season mystique is a nice-to-have, but hardly a critical factor.

Carlos Beltran has been living off of his 2004 postseason run for about 7 years now.:~)

Since 2008, Roy Halladay leads all MLB pitchers with 26.7 WAR

Cliff Lee is second with 24.8

He's an ace.

In other words, THIS SEASON???  This proves beyond the shadow of a doubt that the WAR sabermetric is bullcrap, complete and utter bullcrap.

I'm right there with you on that one.

That is absolutely ridiculous.
