No matter the injury, he's watched first-pitch fastball right down the plate about 200 times this season. F-N swing!!!
He should have been jumping all over that first pitch fastball from Street. WERTHLESS freak

Philly loving bastard. No one likes you here, Jayson. Go away

Well i'm still going to root for him.  He's a National.  As long as you don a Nats uni, I will root for you.

IMO, you're not a fan of the team if you don't root for everyone on that roster (no matter how bad you want someone off).

I didn;t see the game...just looked at MLB gameday. So:

- Could Werth have bunted a run home in the 9th?

- Where was Bixler? Why not pinch-run for Morse and go all-out to steal 2nd? My sense is that runners steal safely somewhat more than 50% of the time, and even more often against a relief pitcher. That takes away the DP.

- Or why not a missed bunt on pitch one and swing on pitch two? Is there a better chance if 1B and 3B are moving hard toward home?

Good ideas.  I thought of the bunt too but not the steal of 2nd.  Stealing with Bixler, if it worked, would have been great.

Asking Werth to bunt is tough, though.  I can understand Davey not wanting to go there.

He's killing the team we all love. He's raping the team and the fans and he doesn't care one bit.

He has no clue. If he gets a hit in that big spot tonight he would have been hailed. The fans are just waiting on him to turn it around and it's not happening. He's giving a big FU to the fans.

yeah dude i'm sure he's doing this all on purpose.  i'm sure he's trying to fail and trying to make all nats fans suffer.

we're all unhappy and i'm sorry but you have to be an idiot if you don't think he's unhappy about this.

He's rolling in money. His work is done. Last year he played hard and set himself up for life.

Now he could not care less. He got his big pay day, he's already won a ring, what next? Huge mistake by Rizzo. Much worse than the Soriano and Vernon Wells signings.

I never thought I could dislike a player more than Dunn but wow Werth takes the cake. He's a nag

so you think all the players coming out and saying how he's been a positive influence even if he is scuffling is all BS.  if he wasn't liked by his teammates, they wouldn't stick up for him.

do i want him to turn it around and start producing like he's capable?  of course.

but i am not putting all the blame on him that we are one a game under .500.

This game was absolutely awful. Just pathetic. No clutch hitting. Werth blows. We were lucky to score one run. At least the pitching was good. Detwiler looked good, and so did Coffey. And Marquis battled.

Offense sucks ass though, and Werth is pushing my patience. I rooted for every single at bat and hard. But I had to boo after the last out. I'm not one to boo, but how much worse can he get? I keep asking myself that every night and he seems to find a way.

Ok, I'm no member of the Sunshine Squad™ but tonight's game was anything but awful.  The outcome for the Nationals may have been awful but the game itself was really good from a strictly baseball perspective.  Ubaldo Jimenez was really, really good tonight and, outside of Marquis grooving one down the interstate to Todd Helton, the Nationals pitching was really good.

The offense, on the other hand, is a total letdown. Werth has got to be injured or so freaked up mentally he can't figure out what day it is given how lost he is at the plate.  Lots of caught lookings tonight which continues to cause some of the regulars in my section to yell the always encouraging "SWING THE BAT" or, in Werth's case, "EARN YOUR MONEY BUM".  I don't know what Eckstein keeps in those binders but apparently letting good pitches go by is the general theme.

Well when I said awful and pathetic, I meant the outcome for the Nationals. It was a hell of a baseball game, and Ubaldo was nasty, and in the 8th inning when he was exhausted you could tell he really focused in and made a good pitch to Danny.

And yes Marquis was good, and I really liked seeing Detwiler look good in there. The defense for the Nats was phenomenal as it usually is. Overall it was a great baseball game. Didn't mean for my statement to come across like that.

Just an ending like we had is so frustrating.

I don't think for one minute Werth is feeling good inside and doesn't care about his inability to hit.  It doesn't matter how much money he's getting - this absolutely has to be destroying him.

For the Nationals, it's an impossible situation unless he works his way out of his slump.  I don't know the number of times he's been at bat with the game on the line but it's got to be a substantial number and it's really dragging both the team and its loyal fans down.

Yeah, that's a bit ridiculous.

No one wants to fail... or doesn't get upset when they fail.

That's just SF being SF.

They only interview Werth when he makes a game winning play. I wonder if the FO has anything to do with this, or if Werth refuses to talk to the media after a crappy performance. Other players are held accountable, but Werth continues to get a pass.

Not true.    Debbi interviewed him in the lockeroom after the blown eight-run lead.

I actually praised Werth about it in another thread.

$30k/AB

but I think you might be wide of the mark here.

I think he looks embarrassed.

He isn't ashamed of anything. He is laughing as he cashes his huge checks. You could see the indifference on his face.

...only 29,441 in the house last night? Looked mid-thirties at least (and that's not counting our four-legged matchgoers for Pups In The Park 2.0) - must have given out a lot of freebies yesterday.

You wouldn't fly up from SC if you didn't have well-though-out positions such as these. Unless you were a rich dumbass, I guess.

Was there any reason the infield was back on that Helton ground ball?
