Espinosa also had a tough game but outside of him, this game can pretty much be laid at the feet of Werth's failure in the 9th.  Marquis did great, Detwiler, Desmond, Flores with the play at the plate.  Even Coffey (who should be traded tonight) managed a scoreless inning.  Morse had a couple of hits.  Nix had a great play.  Literally everyone contributed except for Werth.

We were totally in a position to win this in the 9th or in extras.

freak, Werth.  Just terrible.

They only interview Werth when he makes a game winning play. I wonder if the FO has anything to do with this, or if Werth refuses to talk to the media after a crappy performance. Other players are held accountable, but Werth continues to get a pass.

Just watched Nyjer bunt foul with 2 strikes in the bottom of the 9th.
What a bum! He threw his helmet instead of his glove though...I guess that's sort of an improvement.

Like when he thought they were winning as he hit a walk off HR in the bottom 9th!

Maybe Werth's injury is worse than he is letting on? What is his problem? His Hammy?

Hip flexor.

...and that would make me hate him even more.  He's willing to go out and hurt the team rather than say he's injured.

He wouldn't be the first and he sure wouldn't be the last. LaRoche and Kimball both did it this season.

Mike Rizzo signed Jayson Werth.

Whoever keeps deleting this is censoring a fact from the board, which is pretty pathetic.

Yes I would. And that's sad. He's one of the highest players in baseball yet he belongs in AAA with the way he's playing.

And he doesn't he even give a crap because he's rich

No matter the injury, he's watched first-pitch fastball right down the plate about 200 times this season. F-N swing!!!

I didn;t see the game...just looked at MLB gameday. So:

- Could Werth have bunted a run home in the 9th?

- Where was Bixler? Why not pinch-run for Morse and go all-out to steal 2nd? My sense is that runners steal safely somewhat more than 50% of the time, and even more often against a relief pitcher. That takes away the DP.

- Or why not a missed bunt on pitch one and swing on pitch two? Is there a better chance if 1B and 3B are moving hard toward home?

That too. I don't think I've ever seen someone so F-ed up at the plate like Werth.
