i really wonder what the hell is going on with Werth. Hammel is little more than a tomato can and Werth just swung through a pitch right over the plate.

he's done, finished.  some guys collapse fast and it's not like he was really that great to start with.

Another K.  How many is that, 84?  WOW.

I know you'll crucify me for mentioning his name, but to this point, Rizzo has made the worst dollar-for-dollar signing in Major League history other than maybe that outrageous Mike Hampton deal.

Completely unreasonable. Do you think he wants Werth to be playing this way? No. We all expected Werth to be what his career averages say.. Don't ridicule Rizzo for trying to improve the team, that's crazy.

Wouldn't Bernadina in RF, Ankiel in CF, and Nix in LF be the best thing for the team?

seriously - what has Werth done that should have him batting 5th?

Yeah, when I saw the line-up I was thinking Werth should be 6 or 7.

But can you imgagine his reaction if Davey told him he was batting way down in the order?

I don't want to hijack the game thread with this, but if you think Rizzo shouldn't and won't be held accountable for giving this guy $126 million, you're crazy.  If he finishes the year without significant improvement, it will be viewed as one of the biggest bust years in free agent history.  Rizzo could definitely lose his job over this.

He's not nearly that good.

But for now, he'll do.

I really don't understand why you hate on him so much.  He's not amazing and he has "moments" in the OF for sure (both good and very bad), but he's by far one of the more competent leadoff hitters this organization has seen.  If he keeps Rizzo from making a stupid deal for Upton or somebody, I'm all for it.

I don't know why people keep bring this up. That crap is irrelevant. What matters is not whether he wants to suck balls but that he is actually sucking balls.

Rizzo has great eye for drafting talent but he's not a GM

That much I totally agree with.

I just don't see a lot of "Werth" in him... he has his moments as you say... but he just screams fourth OF'er to me. Of course I'll always be happy to see him do well.

Equally irrelevant is how much money Werth makes.

Agreed, Chief. Bernadina is completely solid in CF, I don't get the hate.

S37 - I understand. However.. the blame is on Werth, not Rizzo. We had to over-pay, we're the Nationals. Sure it looks bad on Rizzo, but nobody expected Werth to be this bad.

Just saying - and maybe I'm way out of line here - but it seems like you show up without fail to denounce his mistakes (or even near-mistakes) but rarely if ever credit him for the positives with the bat (and yes sometimes in the field)

If I have the wrong impression, so be it and my apologies.

Somebody was just mentioning the other day how his fastball has picked up velocity every single year.  I forget what thread that was.

(I'm assuming your post was in reference to Lannan)

I see what you're trying to say, but general managers are held to account based on these things.  My opinion about Rizzo aside, if Werth continues to struggle, the heat will definitely turn up on the guy who paid him $126 million.
