"Davey Johnson will finish the 2011 season and then act in a full-fledged capacity in choosing a replacement, either as a candidate or as an interviewer"

Yeah, that struck me as an odd statement.

It sounded like he would be able to choose a replacement, even choosing himself over again? Sort of like when George Bush put Dick Cheney in charge of his vice presidential search committee.

I hope Davey's better than Dick Cheney.

Wouldn't be completely surprising - I recall hearing sometime back that the coaching staff would be retained otherwise (which would mean McLaren would resume his former bench-coach spot).

(One more bit about Jageler, continuing from my two previous posts - he seems generally to be showing signs of lingering late-night effect from last night's marathon.)

This is really Jake Peavy's first-ever relief appearance?

I keep having a feeling they want Porter to eventually take the job.

It is - prior to today all 238 of his appearances have been starts: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6872

I hope, I think he could be good.  I wasn't a fan of Johnson past this year.

Would it kill us to score a few runs early in a game.

I hate these zero-zero / one-zero games.

He's been a third base coach for about three teams, including Arizona, and a bench coach for one. He implemented our new second-to-home and first-to-third baserunning drills during spring training and I think worked a lot on outfield defense.

Found this on the Nats' site:

As slow as Dunn is and as bad as that throw was I'm surprised Desmond isn't on 3rd right now.
