This is baseball. Even in the worst of matchups the lesser team has probably a greater than 30% chance of victory. So it seems weird to me to emphasize any particular game as proving (or disproving) anything at all.

It's hilarious you use W/L record to justify why he's a bum.

He is certainly not a #3 or better pitcher and I wouldn't call him a #4 either. He's a typical #5 pitcher, nothing more nothing less.

Regardless of what you think of him, he is a guy the Nationals should beat if it is believed that we are a good team.

Yeah... looking at Fister's career stats, it's not at all clear to me why spoprtsfan thinks he's a "fifth starter" (there is no such thing) or "career minor leaguer" when he has pretty good peripherals and ERA and made 28 starts last year...

I looked it up the other day and he has been fairly even this year. Even slightly better on the road. Should look up career though, because he is off to good start and is playing better than his previous numbers indicate.

Your buddy John Lannan has similar numbers (slightly higher WHIP).

I'm not saying there is no value in having #5 caliber pitcher but it is a guy you should beat.

Fister had a career 4.34 ERA in 421.1 Minor League innings. Gives up more hits than IP and does not rack up a lot of Ks.

He's mediocre through and through.

For the last time, a "#5 caliber pitcher" is a replacement-level AAA player. At worst you might call Fister a fourth starter, but he's put up 5 fWAR in the three years he's been in the majors, two of which are incomplete... he's a far better pitcher than you're giving him credit for. Of course, the Safeco effect is very real, but that logic needs to be applied to all Mariners pitchers, not just Fister.

May: 3.79 ERA
June: 4.50 ERA
