Ouch, this team is an epic joke. How in the freak did they not see this injury sooner?

He's been durable his whole career and then comes here and this happens :?

The season is over. Might as well see if Marrero is any good.

It's not like he's tearing up AAA.  Slugging .395?    :spaz:

Its not like laroche was slugging was high.

Morse would get most of innings over there.

I sincerely doubt that Marrero would outperform Morse for the remainder of 2011.  Seems to me Morse is starting to find his swing.

Then at least we can put him in LF. Nix isn't going to hit .300 for much longer.

They'd be better off bringing up another reliever. We'll probably need one as our starters' luck runs back towards the norm.

Morse will hit .280 + with 18 HRs. Book it.
Average up to .282, 4 HRs.

We needed 25-30 HRs from him.

What if he hit like Gaby Sanchez?

Will not get that, but 15 -20 after that poor start would be some salvage.  I had hoped for more, true, but not a complete disaster.

yeah see that's what i'm thinking.  When we face lefties, that way we have Marrero @ 1B and Morse in LF.  Whatever it's not going to happen.  we're stuck with AAAA team.

Sanchez gets on base much more and strikes out far less. Different player.

I was hoping Morse could give us 25-30 HRs and a .275 BA

Sorry, I thought you were talking about a future comp for Chris Marrero, not Morse.

Ok but as for the Marrero/Gaby Sanchez comparison that might not be too far off. Look what Marrero did last year in full season in AA:

2010 (AA): .294/.350/.450, 18 HRs 82 RBIs

Gaby Sanchez's numbers from the Majors last year: .273/.341/.448, 19 HRs 85 RBIs

Eerily similar, in a perfect world that is what Chris Marrero will become.

Don't we really need him in the lineup pretty much all the time now, at least while he's hot?

He's hit homers off of Yovanni Gallardo and Zach Greinke this week. Somebody needs to tell him he can't hit good pitchers.

http://www.masnsports.com/byron_kerr/2011/05/marrero-turning-heads-with-solid-defense-in-syracuse.html

Quote
The 6-foot-3, 210 lb., Marrero has once again been handling the bat very well for Triple-A Syracuse, batting .275 with eight doubles, four homers and 19 RBIs in almost two months of play. The last 10 games, he has hit .350 with a trio of three-hit games.

The coaching staff has always known about Marrero's offense, but now his continued marked improvement defensively at first base is gaining big time attention. In 43 games, Marrero has committed just one error.

Chiefs' play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti told me manager Randy Knorr believes Marrero can play in the majors now, but the plan is to keep Marrero in the minors all season long to refine his skills.

Nationals infield coordinator Jeff Garber, who travels to every affiliate in the system throughout the season, has seen the maturation in Marrero's game as an eyewitness.

"His transformation into a consistent first baseman has been outstanding," Garber said. "Marrero is going to be a solid (batting) average, defensive first baseman. Where I know a lot of the talk early on in his career was around his bat, everyone was just hoping he was playable at first base. I think he is beyond playable."

Garber was with the Chiefs recently and worked with Marrero on the field.

"I was just with him for a couple of days and his confidence and assertiveness out there are impressive," Garber continued. "His ability to pick the ball around the base has been tremendous. His development over the last couple of years has been outstanding. He is going to be a solid, aggressive first baseman."

Also that they plan on keeping him there all year.

Update on LaRoche.  He sounds like he's expecting to go under the knife and come back next year.

Last year with Marquis and now this year with LaRoche.  Just terrible luck.

Hey Nats - sign me for 8 mil a year and I'll sit on the 60 day DL just as well as these guys.

I swear I read that the tear happened last year, and the Nats were aware of it... but I couldn't find the article that said that.

It was from back in Spring Training.

Just do the surgery and stop waiting for magic to happen. Morse is the 1B. If LaRoche comes back next year, then, fine and good.

Of course, everyone saw this coming two months ago, except the medical quacks the Nats use. Now his rehab is two months behind.
