Ankiel has little trade value. At this point, he's a defensive outfielder with occasional pop against righties. He's DeWayne Wise, except instead of an ability to steal, he has the ability to drive a ball. He might no even be DeWayne Wise.
That said, how would you use him? Would you have him sit until there is an injury to Moore, Harper, Morse, or LaRoche? Or would you sit Moore and Morse 1 out of every 3 starts v. RHP to give Brown some playing time? If he's just riding the pine, then I might prefer Ankiel, who is the superior defender. Let Morse and Moore get you the lead, then brign in Ankiel for the D.
Brown is playing himself into a trade chit, maybe a valuable one, with 6 years of team control and being optionable this year and next. I'm not saying he's the next Josh Reddick, but that is what made a guy like Reddick very attractive to a low budget team. Brown would be a great fit in Houston, for example, or maybe even KC.
