Smoker:
Quote
Left-handed reliever Josh Smoker continues on a tear with the Single-A Potomac Nationals, keeping opponents off the base paths and not allowing runs.

His ERA continues to dive with each successive scoreless inning, now reading 1.75 ERA. His velocity has even hit an astounding 97 mph. The Calhoun, Ga., native has allowed only one run in his past 10 appearances.

He might be the lefty we have been looking for in the bullpen.

What is dead arm?  Serious question.

Another serious question - why not just give him an MRI?  Is there any harm in doing it?  I've gotten an MRI on my knee and they didn't inject anything - I was pretty much in and out.  Would a shoulder MRI be of the type comish4life described and require time off from pitching?  They spent lots of money signing him so spending a few extra bucks to protect the investment would make sense so the cheap argument doesn't really hold much water in my book.

A dead arm is just that, a dead arm.

For a major leaguer who normally throws 94, with a dead arm will throw 80. He'll be maxing out, throwing with little to no discomfort, but with no results.

As for an MRI with dye, it depends on the patient's symptoms and history. It's usually not the first course of action, however, it was indicated in my situation. I've since had my biceps relocated to address the tear in my labrum.

Why was Brad Meyers out? What injury did he have this time(please tell me it's not the foot again).

for someone who has been pitching for a while, stuff will show up - not necessarily causing any problems.  However, once found, will be treated, frequently with surgery, thus ending a season.  If rest will take care of it, worth the 2-4 weeks out, rather than a lost season or possibly more

Exactly. Dr Lewis Yocum did my labrum surgery, and when he first diagnosed it, he told me 90% of pitchers will have labrum damage in an MRI. It's just a matter of it affecting you or not.

You don't automatically run for an MRI because your arm hurts. I went through a rehab and a cortizone shot before I had one. I know pro pitchers have different things at their disposal, but the doctors have been around the game before.

That's awesome. I always wondered what his velocity was as a reliever, because he's been dominant since shifted over. He's still had some control issues but the K's and ERA reflect very well.

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE SYRACUSE GAME???  I was watching it (on milb.tv) for the first couple of innings then IT DISAPPEARED!

I refreshed the milb.tv page and the game is gone, not there anymore!

This is the third time, this season, something like this has happened.   >:(

Three-run homer by Solano.  When Rodriguez went on the DL, I said he should have been called up over Flores.

You are a smart man.

He's having a career year offensively.  How's his defense?

I couldn't say.  I was basing it entirely on his offense.  :)

Nope.  It's still gone.

The game is definitely being aired because I was watching it.  It's on channel 13 in Scranton (WYOU) to be exact.

He has always been an extremely solid defensive catcher.  I used to think that was all that he was, but he is giving reason to believe his bat has some potential as well.
