not sure i would go that far - but I was jazzed when after Nix let the ball fall in front of him in the third I think, I explained to my wife and kids that with the pitcher coming up and the score tied, it didn't make sense to dive for a ball and potentially miss it, and then I heard Santangelo explain the same thing, so i felt that for once, I actually knew what I was talking about.

Comparing a man (FP) to a boy (Dibs). In broadcasting terms, of course. I am sure Dibs could kick FP's ass.

And for those of you who miss Dibs ripping them the play on the filed, FP got on Morse and Hairston for letting a fly ball drop in between them. Cant' specifically recall what he said, because there was a lot of commotion around...he also ripped Morse for not laying out for a ball about a week ago, saying that sometimes you surprise yourself when you dive.

good - as much as i'm starting to like him, he still seems reluctant to criticize the team.  He should have come down hard on Porter and Werth for Werth's attempt to score yesterday on a ball hit to shallow LF.  Instead he was half-heartedly praising Werth for trying to make something happen.

FP seems like a naturally positive person person so criticism doesn't seem to come easily to him. But it will come if they start to lose. He seems like a hyper-competitive guy who plain don't like losin'.

As is, FP is doing a good job of keeping things fresh, other than his usage of "country hardball', "crispy" and "____ wants to win", he's done a solid job for his first full time color gig.

Yeah, he's one of my many hot buttons.

Hate in m heart? Ok, it's because I saw him being extremely rude to a bunch of kids during a fan event. As he was walking down the concourse during a Picnic in the Park event last year, two kids asked him for an autograph and he rudely told them he was only going to sign at the table. Basically, get in line you brats. Of course, Carp stopped and signed.

It's just the way he said it, too. Like he was extremely bothered. Yeah, he big-timed his way right out of a job.

Of course, the other way to get me riled is to say that a margarita is a sissy drink. Damn, don't people know there's tequila in there. That stuff grows hair on your chest.

Dibble likely would have been fine with one comment or the other, but not both. He got in trouble for saying what he did about the women at the ballgame, and then made the Strasburg comments. I liked Dibble for the first year but then his act got kidn of boring. I don't mind people being critical of the team when they deserve it but listening to the same rant everytime the team lost got real old real quick. Dibble actually went into the same rant this morning about guys with good fastballs throwing sliders. Dibble was like a comedian with one good bit. It is funny at first but quickly gets old. I don't know if I really like FP that much yet. I think the mark of good commentary is they can keep you watching when the team is losing. Charlie and Dave on the radio are always interesting no matter what the team is doing on the field while Bob and FP are mearly background noise.

One thing that annoys the hell out of me about Santangelo? If he calls Bob "Partner" one more time, I'm going to hunt him down. It was tolerable at first, but now, when he calls Bob "Partner" a hundred times a game, I'm starting to lose it. Call him Bob, call him dumbass for all I care. Just stop calling him Partner.

It's called the Tim McCarver syndrome.

I always remember that McCarver liked to place the outfielders. He was the Mets TV guy, with Bob Murphy (the late and lamented great) in the late '80s. Spent most of his breath criticizing where Davey Johnson had positioned the OF. Usually every OF was too deep, and Keith Hernandez -- a model defensive 1B -- was always too close to the bag or too far away. Situation or hitter didn't matter. Wherever Hernandez played, it was wrong. I used to think that McCarver was annoyed that Johnson and the coaches didn't have a "bat phone" to the broadcast booth so McCarver could position the fielders.

By the way, I've now heard Santagelo, and it's true: his comments usually add to understanding the game.

Still, I never liked Dibble as a pitcher because he played to that "nasty boys" act. I would rather hear Dick Bosman talk pitching. (Bosman was the Nats ace in the late '60s, and became a very good pitching coach.)

Positive isn't the right word for Santangelo.  He is too much of a cheerleader.  His knowledge and speaking ability would have a more positive effect if he would be more subtle in his words and voice

I didn't see this posted anywhere - Steinberg had a nice interview with FP Santangelo on the WashPost website. 

I liked FP.  He said he changed his style somewhat around June and that he was much more comfortable with being himself from that point on. 

No mention of where he first heard the phrase, 'good, old-fashioned country hardball.'
