Hope not. It would be a dagger if we were stuck dealing with a multi-year wanting LaRoche and a bunch of scrubs. If we fail to get Lee I'm going to be much more sour on this off-season.

Edit: Someone there summed up my thoughts.

Quote
Just as the title says, I have been told by somebody that has knowledge of the situation that the Orioles have agreed to a 1 year deal with 1B Derrek Lee pending physical... Don't know the money.

Told that LaRoche was seeking a 4 year deal @ ~$14M a year.

This seems so preposterous that it makes me doubt everything else you've been told.

Is this the same guy who "sourced" the Teixeira to Baltimore signing?

At this point, I really don't want either of them.  The only 1B worth a damn was Dunn - let's just give Morse a shot and focus on two pitchers.
If you go with the Morse plan - that is, give him first base full time -  then what's the down side to signing Nick?  He comes cheap, you can use him at first base occasionally against righthanders, and as soon as he's injured you're no worse off than when you started.

That's like saying "There was only one girl of my dreams and I screwed it up so I'm just going to look at pictures for the rest of my life."

That's like saying "There was only one girl of my dreams and I screwed it up so I'm just going to look at pictures for the rest of my life."

Actually, the analogy is a bit incomplete.

Using it, let's assume that the person in question is a straight man.  In this case, Dunn represents the "girl of your dreams" and Lee, LaRoche and Morse are your other options.  It's my opnion that Morse is the better of the three choices at this point since "the girl of my dreams" has recently married (and since she changed leagues, she's probably married into a lesbian relationship - which means there's no possible return to bliss since I am, in fact, not a lesbian).  And so if we then assume that my only other option (using your analogy) is pictures, well, there are two types of pictures:  gay and straight.  IMO, Lee and LaRoche represent gay pictures at this point - sure, it's pictures but it's not very useful since I'm straight and it's nowhere near as appealing as straight pictures (in this case, represented by Morse) even though neither option is as appealing as "the girl of my dreams."

So then, yes; I choose pictures.  I just prefer my pictures to have women in it.

Or, since you included adding two pitchers to having Morse at 1B, you could've said that it would be like looking at pictures AND banging a few chicks on the side without any long term attachments.

It's good that's he's so honest about it...that he puts his goods right out on the table.  All he needs now is a pair of high heels and fishnet stockings.

As it turns out, Cliff Lee was less the whore than it had been assumed.

It's a shame that either the FO thinks it has to be an either/or proposition regarding pitching/1B or that the FO office doesn't care that the it is fully accepted as true in the baseball world that the Nationals are cheap.

It's a shame that you believe that some random blowhard knows what he is talking about when it comes to intricate budgetary details for the team.

O's have Lee on a one year deal, verbal agreement.
We've just offered LaRoche a two year deal. Twitter commentator notes he is now out of suitors.

I'm pretty disappointed in losing out on Lee - especially to the O's.  As much as LaRoche stirkes out, he better bring some serious defense and other assets.  And that's assuming we're able to get him.

I'm not convinced that they don't try to sign Kotchman at this point.  That would be a serious downer.

If this is the truth, then Rizzo did a perfect job, got the guy they probably wanted all along for less years.

Agreed. This also reminds me of when the Nats got Adam Kennedy about 5 minutes after Orlando Hudson was signed.

BTW the source is Bill Ladson Spaceman Spiff so possibly the offer he's talking about, was actually made in 1986.
