Twins could jump in if they lose out on Pavano, can't resign Thome, and have questions about Morneau's health.

That might not change the equilibrium. Let's say we sign Pavano and then the Orioles and Twins split LaRouche and Lee. That leaves one team and one first baseman - Thome.

Jim's strictly a DH at this point in his career.

I see him either landing in Minnesota, Tampa or going home.

Why not give Thome a one year deal for 1b.  I know he was a DH the past few seasons but i don't believe he'd be any worst at 1b than Dunn was.

Thome told the Dodgers that if they expected him to play first, they shouldn't trade for him.

He physically can't.

Jim would have tons of offers if he could still make it through a year playing in the field... but his body won't let him anymore.

Or the Orioles can up the deal again after the Nats do. It's a good thing a lot of board members aren't GM's.

Its a good thing you are so biased towards LANC its ridiculous dude.

Hammonds and Chris Needham are the two biggest Nats whiners I have ever seen. They both do nothing but whine about the Nats no matter what they do, good or bad.

Who's Chris Needham?

the dude who used to write the capital punishment blog.

now he spends his days on Twitter whining about every. single. solitary. move. the nats make, regardless of whether it is a good or bad one.

I hate unfollowing Nats fans, but man..I had to. It was getting ridiculous.

Ah I see. The only Nats "media" I follow are Zuckerman and occasionally Kilgore/Goessling.

OK fine, how about Adrian Beltre? And suggesting that the players and agents have some control of the negotiations along with other teams is super biased, I'm sorry. Hammonds is going off the deep end

Last week, I actually did check to see if Beltre had ever played first base.    According to baseball-reference, he hasn't.

Beltre is more valuable at 3rd, unless we pay him more than others to play first, I don't see why anyone would do it.

Right, if the guy has the skill to play third, he's going to get paid for that skill, and it's a waste of money to play him at first.

This.  Beltre has no place on this team with Zimmerman fully entrenched at third base.  He's not an option.

Honestly if the O's up Lee's offer to $10 million, let them have him.  We would then have some leverage with LaRoche, and he would be forced to accept a deal in the range of $13-$15 million for 2 years, which would be good for us.

If I'm Rizzo, I'm not going higher than $8 mil/season for either player, with a 2-year maximum.

The Orioles should stop worrying about a first baseman and start worrying about their bullpen. It was awful last season and all they have done is trade relievers for Mark Reynolds and J.J. Hardy. Remember how terrible 2009 was for the Nationals and how many games the bullpen lost. The stretch from May 10th to may 19th was one of the most painful ever as a Nationals fan. I know the Orioles believe in their young starters and feel they have improved the offense but a bad bullpen can take all that away in a heartbeat. Of course in a couple years we could be thanking Hanrahan for helping us to land Harper.

I'm sure Needham (who is awesome) will stop nagging when the Nats finally stop making bad moves.
