Zombie Flores cannot be killed because you cannot kill what is already dead. Have an arm drop off, maybe, but that will not kill him.  If we wanted him on a diet, I'd room him with Nyjer's Baseball Sense because there'd be no brains to feast on.

If we end up with a tradeable young C and another at MI, that could get you serious prospects or upgrades.

Maya with yet another good start.  6 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 7 K.  Looks more and more like last year was just him working off some rust.  I really want to see how he looks in ST.

Yeah. These starts seem promising. I hope  he does this in ST. Those are numbers we need.

Just putting Maya's latest start in here:

7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER (solo HR), 2 BB, 8 K.

His total line for winter ball looks like this:

7 GS, 39.0 IP, 21 H, 3 ER, 9 BB, 41 K.  That's a 0.69 ERA and 0.77 WHIP.

Also, Henry Rodriguez's stats just popped up on our winter league page.  He's playing in Venezuela this winter.

17 G, 20.1 IP, 11 H, 4 ER, 9 BB, 27 K, 4 WP.  1.77 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and perfect in 5 save opportunities.

Those numbers are sick. I wonder if there's someone who can project MLB numbers from them?

How does anybody equate winter league ball to the MLB season? There may be a couple of real players on each team so a pitcher can easily manage his way through a line up. There is no reason for a pitcher to shy away from throwing strikes in winter league ball. So his (Rodriguez) walks are a bit worrisome.

Winter league rosters are a weird combo for sure.  Good veterans, solid young players, good prospects, career washouts and more are mixed together rather oddly.  It's good to see the WHIP down for Rodriguez but the BB are a bit high (but not compared to his pre-2010 numbers).

Who gives a freak? He sucked last year. We're screwed with a guy like him, just like we would be with Webb or Wang. Doesn't matter that he was rusty - I want results.

I'm happy to be pleasantly surprised. Maybe Maya is not as bad as he looked in September, when he did not look like a major league pitcher. We'll see.

I'm drinking the kool-aid on Maya. I think working with Livan is going to help him adjust tremendously. He dealt with blisters after throwing a couple minor league games and didn't come anywhere close to his reported 94 MPH fastball velocity, which points to him being either injured or out of shape. His WL stats make me think the latter. At the very least, he should be more valuable than someone from the Detwiler-Mock-Martin-Atilano-Chico-Martis scrap pile, and maybe he becomes a swingman when Strasburg returns.

I remember last year... I kept waiting for him to stop throwing batting practice fastballs... and it never happened.

Hopefully a proper offseason can get him back on the right track.

this.  i don't know what's so wrong with going out and getting a proven starter for our MLB rotation and letting maya build up some innings/experience in AAA and when we need another pitcher ... if maya shows he can get the job done ... then we will call upon him.

I hope every starter but Marquis wins 15 games. Marquis can go site seeing for all I care. Just don't pitch for the Nats.

haha why?

i don't care who you are or what you've done in the past, but as long as you wear a nats uni, i'm going to root like hell that player/pitcher helps us win games.

I don't actually have anything against Marquis... just something about him annoys me.

Obviously I want him to go 30-0 or whatever... but if I had to pick one to ship out, he'd be my choice.

That's stupid. I hope Marquis pitches for the Nats, wins 7 games by the All-Star Break, and gets traded for a BA top 50 prospect piece. I also hope you remember to root for the Nats.
