If the six runs in the first inning were the result of Pudge calling the wrong pitches, then why did they pull Marquis?

Because he had thrown 38 pitches, just gave up a hit to the pitcher, and Riggleman isn't smart enough to figure out the 3 clear DP groundballs up the middle only got through because the catcher and defensive shift completely nullified each other.

Because it wasn't (solely, anyway) the result of Pudge calling the wrong pitches, and you don't leave a pitcher in when he gives up 6 ER in 1/3 IP.

P.S. If Marquis didn't like where Pudge was setting up, guess what?  He could make like Strasburg and shake him off.  If you don't feel comfortable with a pitch, you don't have to make it!  Marquis deserves at least as much blame as Pudge does if you think it was the pitch calling that led to his disastrous outing.

Just pointing out the idiot manager and vastly overrated catcher were at least as much to blame tonight.

nice throw/grab.  Bob, be careful talking about Dunn's fielding, he's supposed to be the worst fielder in baseball don't you know.

LOL.  Take a look at the 1st inning tonight as exhibit A.  Exclusively setting up away on LHBs while the bench has the defense in a deep pull shift.  Either he needs to yell at the bench to change it up or he has to pretend he isn't blind and adjust his calls to the freaking defense.  There's absolutely no excuse for the way Pudge refuses to change things up even when they aren't working.
Marquis' not a young guy. They talked plenty of times during that inning. 2 veterans should have been on the same page. My comments are based towards what Pudge does for the young guys.

What does he do?

Strasburg is a freak of nature that doesn't need a catcher.

Martin got hurt and was inconsistent, Stammen got relegated to the pen, Detwiler has been inconsistent and injured, JZ is still getting healthy, Lannan had to go to AA to fix things, Atilano got progressively worse.  Hell, even the younger guys in the pen (Clippard, Burnett, Storen) have struggled more than the vets.

Seriously, what has the black hole of offense done other than throw out a good percentage of base runners?

Lets just say I am sure the young guys are comfortable with Pudge behind the plate calling the game for them.

And here we go with Oswalt vs. Kennedy.  Oh wait, Durbin.  Not quite the same thing.

So... for anyone looking for silver lining, Zimmerman is batting .306!

So what?  That doesn't mean it's a good thing to have him there.

I won't mention the throwing error or the baserunning gaffe.

You're right that at this point in his career, Pudge is more of a decent backup catcher than a starter.  Unfortunately, it's not clear that Ramos is a major league starting catcher either at this point... I agree with them getting equal time in the field.

They were negated by Dunn's amazing defensive play! (not really)

Kennedy went 4-5 during Oswalt's first start for the Phills back in July - I think it was Kilgore that tweeted "Kennedy kills Oswalt"

Showalter had a point about the September call-ups making managing too easy, he proposed that teams should have to pick 25 players to dress a night, that might make things more interesting.
