Lannan doesn't deserve this type of rope.

Pull him.

I don't know if it was brilliant, but he made some really big pitches when he needed to and looked good out there.  If the ump wasn't squeezing him so bad, then he might have been able to go a bit longer.

Brilliant?

Okkkkkkkkkkk.

If Marquis gives the same outing "he got lucky and look at that WHIP nearly 2!"

Marquis only had 1 outing with a K rate that high. Lannan was getting squeezed also. Marquis has gotten squeezed this season except the outing vs. the Phillies which ruined a potential good start.

Marquis has had just about two outings as good or better than this one peripheral-wise.

THEY BOTH SUCK.  IT DOESN'T MATTER.  STOP WITH LANNAN V. MARQUIS.

Tell me which one. I only see 1 of them. He's only had 3 outings all year where he had more K than BB.

He had one with 2 K's and 0 BB, from a K/BB perspective that one was better.  And then there was the 8 K 1 BB one.  I think that's pretty much it.

  I kinda like the new Lannan TBH.  If he keeps striking people out he could actually be a decent third starter, whereas I don't think Marquis has ever really made the case that he should be anywhere but the back of the rotation.

 Right now they are the 2 best pitchers on the Nats, and that's what counts, what can you do for me lately? If Lannan goes ~ 120 pitches today, that's a big deal.

He also allowed a HR in that outing. That counts as a peripheral. I'm interested to see if Marquis keeps this up. I'm not worried about his K's. He only allowed 1 BB in the past 2 outings (12 innings). If he lowers his walks, he will have a lot of success just like Lannan has had success his return by lowering his walk rate.

I'm just pointing out that you are very hypocritical when it comes to those two.

The same outing from both would get two different responses from you.

Marquis never had an outing with 6 K or 2 K/BB that I have criticized. I don't think Lannan was that good today, but he was brilliant in limiting the damage and using the K with men on base.

One of our pitchers (who cares if it Marquis or Lannan) goes out and has a pretty good day on the mound and people feel the need to defend why he actually sucks.  Give me a break, just enjoy the game.  Save the hate for a day when he blows the game.
