I bet Dunn gets nothing but sliders here.

It's these type of games that inflates the offense.

That's why we average 4+ a game... you're down big and you score a lot to make it closer and you kind of forget that it evens out with all the games you lose 1-0 or 2-1.

But hey, at least we keep the losses close, right? :?

Ha. True. But its baseball I guess... peaks and valleys. I guess the good teams just manage to have offense and pitching going at the same time.

First pitch killed the at-bat for Dunn. Way too far off the plate for it to be a strike.

Listening to Nats on radio.  I think every bad call (apparently Dunn keeps getting bad ones) should be viewed by whoever evaluates umpires.

Lets go Nats!

I did like that the offense showed some heart.

That's about the only good thing I have to say about today.

Oh well.  Another day, another game, another screwjob by the umps.  It's too bad the team is constantly putting itself in positions where the umps decide the game.

I would just like to point out that the bullpen had a great day.

5.2 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 2 BB (Both IBB), 11 K's

You want to know how to win a game? You strikeout hitters and you don't walk them.

Until the pitching staff has more swing and miss pitchers, the team will never be truly competitive.

over 4hrs outside today and I'd throw the game too. What an ass.

You can really test the integrity (and fitness) of an umpire in the 9th inning on a hot day, particularly if it's a long game, which this one was.  When strike calls like that happen in this situation, that's an umpire who shouldn't be umpiring because he's weak.   He's either dishonest or he yielded to his fatigue.  >:(

Anyway, if our pitching was a little less terrible today, perhaps we wouldn't have been in that situation.  We left lots of runs on the field today but you should be able to win a game when you score 5 runs.   :(

The answer to my original question is "NO!"  We are not going to turn our great win yesterday into a winning streak. :icon_frown:

Riggleman should have never pulled Jimmy Smits.

linty makes a good point, pen had a good day yesterday after the inconsistent mr. stammen's start.

it's a shame kennedy/nieves couldn't do anything with bases loaded to keep the rally going ... that killed us.  nieves :nono:

100% agree - Another batter(besides Nieves)  at the plate with the bases loaded could have changed the complexion of the game.

Is it possible that there's some unwritten rule about not pinch hitting your catcher?

You don't do it in case you pull one catcher and the other one gets hurt. Then you end with Kennedy or Morse behind the plate.

Willingham? Or was he out of the game?

Nope. Riggs wasn't given the chance to make a quadruple switch due to Bernadina nursing a sore back.

Pretty sure they'd have JD Martin catch before the all-star caliber LF with a bad back. Just my theory, though.

Riggleman would definitely use Stammen or Martin to replace the catcher because if there is anything he hates, it's wasting his position players in a position they are suited for early in the game. You can't waste Gonzalez because you might need him in the 15th inning.
