Welcome back Rob!  Looking forward to another season.

Nice to see Jordan is the ace of the staff, lots of high hopes for him.  Also having Jenkins/Swynenberg as #2/#3 says a lot that the staff is going to be pretty good.

Who are some of the players to keep an eye on?

It's a bit hard to tell just yet, who to keep an eye on.  The guys got here Wednesday, and they haven't hit on the field due to weather.  Even Jeff Garber told me at a team function that he's not quite sure what we have assembled here just yet.

It's an older team, a lot of Jr/Sr draft picks, a few returning guys from last year (Jack Walker, Ronnie LaBrie and the aforementioned pitchers).

The Monsters got a lot of great innings from a lot of great relievers last year too, which filled the gaps on the lack of power in some stretches.  Hopefully this lineup proves to have more pop, and they get similar innings from guys.

Hey Rob, watch for my man Chad Mozingo! I just graduated from Rice last month, his alma mater too, got to see him in right field there quite a bit the last two years. He doesn't hit the ball out of the park, but he can rack up the base hits. I hope he keeps it up!

Chad stroked a nice double, and drove in the first two of a 6-run 3rd inning!

Audio above.  Enjoy!

Good crowd tonight for sure...  box score says 2400+, but it felt more like 3000+.  Not sure whassup with that.

The pitchers were good tonight.  Taylor Jordan tossed 4 great innings, and just couldn't get the final out of the 5th.

Wade Moore went deep to right, and was 2-4, and Mozingo had the double after a GREAT AB, fouling off about 8 pitches to left (late on the outside fastball), and drove one off the base of the wall in right after the Lowell pitcher just had to give in.... was a tremendous AB.

Clean game, good pitching from Jordan, Bobby Hanson (W), and I liked Gibson a lot.  Great heat, and a snappy curve.  Fanned the side in order in the 8th, first 2 looking, last swinging.

More highlights and interviews are coming as the season goes on.

Thanks for the feedback!

Also, I liked that you got excited! I hate announcers that are monotone when big things are happening!

Keep up the good work!

I listened to Rob a lot last year, we are truly blessed we have so many talented broadcasters throughout the system.

Terry Byrom (Senators) is awesome.

Jenkinson was great tonight (5ip, 2h, 0r, 1bb, 8k).  McCatty was ok, and it seemed worse than it was.  3-0 until a 3 run homer in the 9th to bust it open at 6-0.  Monsters got 5 straight walks in the bottom of the 9th to make it a 6-2 loss.  Here's the high(low) lights.

1:05 tomorrow!

Starting pitching down here has been TREMENDOUS.

Taylor Jordan - 4.2/7/4/1/1/5
Chad Jenkins - 5/2/0/0/1/8
Matt Swynenberg - 5/1/0/0/0/3

One earned run in 14.2 innings, only 4 runs overall as a starting staff.

Strikeout to walk ratio is great for the staff as a whole.  25Ks against only 5 walks (2 of those issued by Wilson Eusabio in yesterday's 7th inning.)

How hard was Jenkins throwing? His scouting report said in the 92-94 range.

Do the boys play Aberdeen this year? I miss going to NYPL games every now and then. I guess you have to pay stubhub upcharges to get into Aberdeen, though.

Not sure where Jenks was on the gun, as we don't have that feature at our ballpark, and no one was in the cat-bird seat below me clocking (usually I can use my binoculars to peer into the perch where the non-throwing pitchers are clocking and charting, but haven't noticed them there yet).

As for Aberdeen, yes they play them late in the year.  Final road trip is a 9 game trip, that starts 8/28 in Aberdeen for 3.  Then onto Brooklyn and Staten Island for the final 6.

Nice. I wonder if WNFF might buy a block of seats, since they only come around 1 out of every 3 years if I remember correctly (home, away, off, rinse, repeat).

Rob - I noticed that Hicks is starting tonight. Is he replacing anyone on the roster?

There's a lot of movement right now to the roster, to make room for several folks.  It's sometimes difficult to get straight answers on the 30 man roster, but a few guys were listed as Reserved Inactive.  Who he specifically took the spot for is anybodies guess.

Hicks was tremendous tonight.  In 9 starts last year, he walked at least 1 batter every game, and never struck out more than 3.  Tonight: 5 innings, 3 runs, 1 earned, 0 walks, 8 K's and the win.

Annnnnnnnnnd the highlights:
