Yeah but he's been kinda struggling in AAA whereas Treinen's been excellent and has shown his stuff plays at the major league level.

It's gonna be Hill, Jordan, Treinen, and Cole fighting for that #5 spot provided we move on from one of Fister, Zimmermann, or Gonzalez and Roark maintains good form.

I don't know how much pedigree matters to Rizzo. Roark got the fifth spot this year ahead of a previously successful major league starter in Detwiler and a much more highly touted prospect in Jordan.

can we let him learn to dominate AAA first (he's allowing over a hit per inning again aaa batters)? He could be a staple of the rotation for years, there is no reason to rush him

I think he comes up as a 7th inning reliever, then starts 2015 as an AAA starter.

No reason to rush this guy. He's only 22. Let him finish the season at about 175 innings or so. Give him a September all up in 2015, then let him be the number 5 starter in 2016, that way we can skip him a few times and build up his arm strength.

4 straight wins for Cole but era is slightly increasing, he is giving a bit more runs. Can he be called up? I still say let him figure out AAA pitching but he is already on his way

No, but he's never pitched this much before. Calling him up at the tail end would be making him work at max effort when his body is the most tired. AFL makes the most sense. Give him a little break after the playoffs and then get him some conditioning. In the AFL he can build up some arm strength and have a shot at the MLB rotation next year.

He isn't one of the players named to the AFL. He has been shut down for the year. He pitched 133.2 innings in 2012, 142.2 in 2013 and 134 in 2014.

I thought he had shoulder soreness after we traded him, but it looks like he just got lit up.

Cistulli idenitfied Garrett Richards as a potential high end starter even though he was never a top 50 prospect and even struggled a bit his first few callups, because he throws hard and does not walk many guys. He sorted by fastball velocity pitchers who had reached AA/AAA, had at least 50 IP, and a BB% of less than 7%. As the link says, his #1 choice this year is Carlos Frias for a Richards-like break out. #2 is AJ Cole, even though his velocity seemed to be down last year.

Not really. Velocity drops for most pitchers, and it's still high. The concern is when it happens in a game.
