Strasburg's Pitching Schedule
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:15:46 am »
If this is already being discussed or fits better somewhere, feel free to move. I didn't think it fit in the farm.

His next start will be at Cleveland on Sunday the 13th. After that, the natural pitching rotation would have him throwing every fifth start. This would be

-6/19 CWS
-6/25 @ Balt

On the radio (ESPN 980) they were guessing that they might have him throw every fifth day instead of every fifth start. This doesn't make much sense to me from a developmental and inning count standpoint, and at first I figured they just misread something about him pitching every fifth game. However, looking at the schedule if they did this

-6/18 CWS
-6/24 KC

Strasburg would add an additional home start.

Anyone have any info out there?

Well, FOX did pick up the game on the 19th vs. CWS.

The every 5th day was reported by Kilgore, too. Kilgore explained that they wanted to give some of the rest of the rotation extra days during the first few SS turns because he's a bit more rested, then ease off on SS later to stretch out how deep into the season he pitches.  Maximizing home starts of course makes financial sense

SS on the 8s and 3s through 6/23 would give one extra home start before the All star break.

8 hours for me.  Looks like I'll be waiting until he pitches at Citi Field and planning a work-based trip to NYC that day.

Get the bus that Phillies fans have already chartered, for an invasion of Nationals Park on Saturday July 31.  Use THAT bus to take Nationals fans to Cleveland.  After returning to DC... destroy the bus...

I'll probably just hope he pitches the 19th against the Sox, where I have tickets.  But as I think JCA pointed out, if he goes the 18th, that means he also pitches the 23rd at home vs. the Royals, instead of 24th in Baltimore.  As much as I'd love for him to stuff it in their beaks up there, why give them the big attendance boost instead of keeping it for ourselves?

I just went to Cleveland's website and could get 4 tickets in the section right behind the plate for $60 in row CC.  not sure how far back that would be, but there's still good tix to be had.

That game against the White Sox on 6/19 could be interesting if Strasburg pitches and Obama shows up.

i am glad it is a weekend. I want my damn bobblehead. That is really all i care about. At that point I will just get there at 1:00. My wife is working and my neice is graduating so there is no one to go with him. It will be a boring three hours by myself, but I will have my damn bobblehead.

I did get tickets for the 25th in Ballmer specifically for that reason. I am thinking of making Blue and Red t-shirt that says something to the effect of Uck Fangelos.

They'll make you turn it inside out, or replace it.

Along the financial lines, it would be a hilarious kick in the nuts to Angelos if Strasburg's natural schedule is altered to get that home start vs KC the day before he would have sold out in Bmore.

Although I'm sure Nats/O's will sell fine anyway.

If you're out to maximize ticket sales, you pitch Strasburg on the 18th precisely because Saturday the 19th is a bobblehead giveaway (which always means a good crowd regardless of who's playing).

Hmmm...then the sign with Angelos doing Selig in an uncomfortable place (not the back of a Volkswagen) with the MASN contract in hand would probably be out too then :)

Does anyone see any chance they toy around with Strasburg's schedule so he pitches on the 4th of July?

Just got tickets for 6/19, originally game time was 4:10pm now it says 7:05pm. Is this because of the Fox broadcast? Which is correct?

Where are you reading the 7:05 gametime? Nationals.com has 4:10.

Probably not. Rizzo and Kasten have been very clear about the strict schedule they're keeping him on. They have said that, even if the Nats are in contention, they will shut Strasburg down when he hits his limit.

After I purchased the tickets and printed them out that's what the time says on them.

Thank you.  I'm glad I read this post.  I'm coming in from out of town and until now I thought the game was 7:05.

Always double-check a day or two in advance. Games sometimes get changed on short notice (thankfully, it doesn't happen OFTEN, but it can and does happen, usually if there's been a rainout). It's not as bad as college football, where game times often aren't announced at all until six days beforehand, but it's better to be on the safe side. The big thing is that if you plan on an earlier game time and they move it to later, you might have to kill a few hours, but if you plan for later and they move it to earlier you're screwed.

Doesn't take much time to go to Nationals.com next Thursday or Friday, so definitely do so if you're coming in from out of town.
