Detwiler and Olsen are the only valuable trade chips the Nats have. But, you can't trade Detwiler until he is healthy. Olsen for a RF would be a good trade.

A healthy Wang may entice Torre to let an OF go for some pitching he desperately needs out there.

Stammen, if his BB/9 continues to be so good, his K/9 gets close to league average, and he strings together 4-5 more good starts may be a 2nd piece in a trade for a good RF.

No one will trade for Wang until he proves he is healthy. The problem is that the team doesn't have a spot in the rotation for him to prove that he is healthy. A team might take a chance on Detwiler because his injury was minor, but Wang sucked and had a major injury. You won't get much for him.

It's amazing to me that everyone's acting like Wang/Detwiler are almost automatic to become mainstays in the rotation later this year.  Far from it.

I'm only basing it on of if Wang is healthy.  If he is healthy, you look at his numbers and experience and you have to insert him into the rotation.

As for Detwiler, he's young and he has some things to work out.  Him reporting the injury so close to spring training, really hurt his chances.  I think he has great stuff, but he will be taken slow with his rehab and in the minors.

I'm an advanced stats type of guy, and FIP is a convoluted stat. Most at bats don't end an a K/BB/HR, you're intentionally ignoring a majority of the available data. I'm not statistician, but I'm sure any analyst type guy would tell you that that's not a smart strategy in evaluation.

It's better to remove the defense from the equation than just ignore it like ERA.  That's where things like WHIP, BABIP, and LOB% help round out the picture.

You're best off just using WHIP, BABIP, LOB, GB/LD/FB%s... especially when comparing to career norms to check for trends/flukiness.

me too ...

going home 3-3 from road trip isn't the worst thing in the world, but we shouldn't be satisfied with it.

Make up a fake injury if you like, but you can't put him out there to fail a la Patterson every 5 days. The team needs wins.

Just his pride.  Or maybe his hearing. he seems immune to our cries of anguish.

His numbers are injured.

The JP comparison is for sucking every time with no adjustments, not injuries.

I'll be glad when the kid Strasburg gets here. Tired of watching Lannan get lit up this year. Maybe he should go back to Syracuse for awhile to work on things.

Lannan doesn't need to go to the minors right now, but he needs to find a solution fast.  His last start against the Cubs he started off struggling, but finished strong.  Today he was just flat out bad.  Can't remember too many of his outings looking like this.

Always sucks against the Marlins/Phillies.  He has to stop that crap if he wants to be on this team for the long haul.

No doubt. The Central and West are just not as strong as the East.

Lannan is, at best, a 4th/5th starter on a winning team.  He's only 4th/5th on the current roster and that's with guys like Detwiler, Wang and SS coming in the not too distant future.  He's got value as an innings eater for some team that is desperate for a pitcher and doesn't value peripheral stats highly.

According to Fangraphs... John Lannan owes the Nats 200K for how bad he has pitched so far this year.

They are just bitter that he is a counterexample to DIPS theory.

6 starts.

In 6 starts, he's proved them right.... so far.

Lets hope he changes that.
