Olsen is obviously shoulders the majority of the responsibility.  If he puts up league average numbers and the bullpen comes in lights out after the 5th or 6th inning, we win that game.  Obviously Walker's performance was terrible, but with even a mediocre start, teams aren't "supposed" to be in a position where they have to bring in Tyler Walker for long relief in the 3rd inning.

Why is Miguel Batista on the roster? Serious question.

he's 39 and was willing to sign a minor league contract

two traits that will always attract the Lerner's attention

Especially when you only need them for a couple of months.

Who was more to blame

Neither

the real problem is in the owner's box and the team president who fronts them

we're supposed to sit back and accept AAA pitching until a rookie comes up and a couple guys who haven't pitched in a year get out of the hospital - after all the losing of the last 5 years no proud organization would accept this

PANatsFan is the root of all evil on this chatboard.  He's a closet Phillies fan, after all.

And when this rookie comes up, and after a few dominating starts, before the league has a book on him, once he has a start like last night when some team slaps him around like Olsen last night, what do we say then?

Find me a pitcher that's never had a bad game.

Wasn't there a guy a couple years ago that threw a near no hitter for his first start and then needed Tommy Johns and never pitched again?

Liriano? He's back but not good. Not the same situation, but nearly.

Olsen's Era would suggest that he has bad games fairly often.

Right, but that wasn't his question.

Who's to blame?

For a single bad night, generally its the players fault, in this case Walker and Olsen.  If the pitcher doesn't improve over time and continues to lose game after game, then it's the GM and/or managers fault.

We need Wang (that's what she said) and Strasburg.

In the two games this year where I met up with Salty the Nats got outscored 21-5.  I don't want to point fingers but I've got a suspicion on where the blame lies.

I see the ignore function works even better on this board than at the MLB Nats forum. Thanks!
