It's a bit strange to watch what the Red Sox are going through right now. Buchholz's first start off the DL is not going well, and it looks like they could be 7 games behind the NYY and 4 behind the Rays at the end of the day. you look on message boards, and there is a big question about if they should move some of their expiring contracts (Beltre, Martinez, even Ortiz) before by 7/31 if they are "too far out." Some say, "hey, just get healthy and we can make a run on anyone" and refuse to think of the possibility of dealing, while others are willing to entertain the possibility that there is some number that is "too far out." It is not unrealistic to think they could be 6 games behind the Rays by the middle of next week and 10 behind the NYY. You wonder whether they would have the guts to pull the plug and deal. Numbers and odds would say if things got that bad, it'd be the smart thing to do.

That would take guts, especially since they have sold out crowds and some of the highest ticket prices (and most uncomfortable seats in baseball).

David DeJesus likely out for the rest of the season due to thumb surgery per CBSSportline. One less piece of trade bait.

Fantasy Analysis
There were several reports on Friday that DeJesus is done of the season, but 10 weeks puts him on track to return for the final days of the 2010 campaign. Still, for Fantasy purposes that all but ends his season. DeJesus was having one of his best seasons, too. There had been several trade rumors regarding DeJesus circulating in recent days, but his trade value -- and, of course, Fantasy value -- has been shot by this development. It's time for owners to drop DeJesus and search for a replacement.

interesting call for Ron Washington coming up. He's up 1-0 on the angels. his starter, CJ Wilson, has given up 4 hits, with 0 BBs and 3 Ks. 11 GB outs, 7 FB, 4 LD outs (yes, that's 25 outs, but who is counting). 103 pitches. Do you bring him out for the 9th or go to Neftali Feliz? Note that they are trying to limit CJ's IP b/c it's his first year starting in a while.

Also, it seems pretty clear that we lucked out in not picking up DiPoto as GM.

One of the reasons he like Joe Saunders so much was because he won so many games over the last three years.

Seriously, that was his explanation.

ASSCLOWN would have loved DiPoto as GM.

it does look pretty bad, but Haren has been an awful 2nd half pitcher. Still, this is the same team that traded Max Scherzer for Edwin Jackson. You would think we could steal something from them...Mark Reynolds for Harris & Desmond?

it was a salary dump by a GM who probably won't be there next year. My guess is it was the best offer on the table without either taking salary back or having to pay a portion of Haren's contract, and they did get a pitchers who has proven he can pitch in the majors. It sucks for Arizona fans though
