Hernandez pitched the entire game, so did Lee and they had no chance to win. And he gave up 3 homeruns.

That's one of the distinctions between the NL and the AL. Because of the DH, you don't have to pinch hit for a pitcher when you're behind/the game is close. NL teams are at a distinct disadvantage, as far as starters innings go. I'll address this in my "Why do we keep coming up aces?" post tomorrow.

I realize he was on the final vote, but that isn't a guarantee, is it? Obviously they weren't going to have two Nats on the final vote... But I looked at Gonzalez's season stats, and unfortunately it does look like he's a near sure thing. There is always hope until they announce it. The season Willingham has had, despite not having a high average, all his other numbers particularly OBP... I really feel he got shafted big time is year. He deserved it. But you'll obviously, in all likelihood, be correct, unfortunately. I'm just too much of a homer to accept reality sometimes.

On another topic... Cory Aldridge for the Angels got his first career hit tonight. Big deal? He made his MLB debut in 2001. I cannot believe there have been many, if any in the modern era, that were a position player/not a pitcher and went ten seasons between their debut and first hit.

How about those White Sox? I remember making fun of the moron Sox fan who came in here saying because they "beat" Strasburg, they were contenders/etc. At that point their record and games back made that laughable. Now, less than a month later!!!, they're in the lead of their division, won something like 24 of 29 games... It's been a long time since I have seen that kind of turnaround so quickly.

Pretty amazing for the Sox. 25 of 30 with 11 and 8 game win streaks (the 8 games is current). The entire AL Central, except for Manny Mania, has shown signs of life recently. The Royals were as hot as anyone until the Sox swept them just now and they have 2 of the 5 wins against the Sox in that streak. Minnesota has survived without Joe Nathan for the year. Detroit has that monster Cabrera and may be a SP away from legit WS contention.

For the record, I was NOT the "moron Sox fan" cited in the above post. But it is a giddy time to be a White Sox fan these days.

hahahaha wow Braves traded Yunel Escobar and Jo-Jo Reyes for Alex Gonzalez and a couple minor leaguers. Escobar's attitude must've been THAT bad.

Escobar is awful and is a team cancer. Atlanta got a guy who can hit and help them this year and a stud reliever named Tim Collins who has ridiculous K numbers in the Minors.

White Sox beat the Twins in Minnesota. 26-5 in last 31 games, currently 9 on a row. Its getting exciting here in Chicago.

I can only imagine. Truly one of the most amazing month and six or seven day comebacks in decades. 26 of 31? And by doing so they go from almost 9 games back in June to taking the division by a game by the all-star break? Phenomenal. All those that put Guillen down as a blight on baseball, there is a reason he's where he's at.

Indeed. Ozzie was quoted in the paper yesterday as feeling like this is the most rewarding team he has ever managed -- even more so than the 2005 Champs. That team really had very little adversity -- they were in first from wire to wire, had a few weeks in September when it looked like Cleveland might catch them, but eventually sprinted away to the best record in the league and went 11-1 in the post season. It was like a dream. This team is different in so many ways -- but to come from so far back and to come into contention again when most fans, including me, had written them off -- this has been very, very special. Of course, there is a lot of baseball yet, and it would be foolish to think the Sox are shoo-ins. Both Detroit and Minnesota have solid clubs, and we have a lot of head to head games yet to play. But its nice to be playing for something at this point in the season.
