Unless the Nats fall into the bottom 15,

We're already in the bottom 10.

Quick question: Let's say we agreed upon a deal with Dunn where we're like "We'll give you 3 years 36 mil after the season, but we're trading you to the White Sox, don't agree to any deal with them", is that illegal? I feel like it would be, but what would happen?

The question is what player in their right mind would sign the deal rather than see what the other team would offer if it didn't have to trade away prospects too

I know. Halladay should have gotten to play in Toronto, that would have been a nice return for him.

If Kenny Williams got no commitment from Dunn beyond this year, then he would definitely not give up Hudson to get him.  This is all academic anyway, since Dunn doesn't want to play DH, and there is little chance that the Sox would sign him to play 1B when re-signing Konerko is an option.

Hudson is not the stellar prospect some Sox fans believe he is.  He's middling at best -- a disappointment for a first round pick.  Even to rent Adam Dunn for half a season, I'd make the deal.  Plus, if the Sox traded for Dunn and went deep into the post season, perhaps even won it all again, Dunn could be a candidate to resign with the Sox. First, Dunn and Konerko could platoon at first base and DH.  Also, playing for a contender and a winner makes a lot of players reconsider their ideal situations.  The Sox could then sign one or both Konerko and Dunn after the season, or let them both go and sign an even bigger impact free agent.  In a division like the AL Central, winning now is what you want.  The upside of a deal for Dunn would be much bigger than the long term loss of Castro and Hudson.  This has proven true time and time again.  Kenny Williams has repeatedly traded away the top prospects in the Sox organization, some for players that really clicked with the Sox, others who did not (did someone say Ken Griffey Jr?).  But I defy anyone to name more than one of these prospects who have turned out to be star players.  Few are even regulars on MLB teams now.  Trading prospects is a gamble, but one that is usually a winning gamble, at least for the White Sox.

Dealing Dunn is a disservice to the ticket holders at this stage of the game. I am very much in favor of a contract extension, but 2 picks are ok if it can't be worked out.

He's dominated all the way through the minors, including all the way through 4 levels in 09, to AAA where he is striking out everyone in sight and he's a dissapointment?

He was a 5TH ROUND PICK.  Glad to see you have no idea who you are talking about.

He's got a 92/25 K/BB ratio in 76.1 IP.  He's got a 1.24 WHIP.  The only negative I can see is that he's given up 11 HR in 14 games, but that's not even that bad.  He was the MLB.com Minor League Pitcher of the year for 09.  I'll take a guy who is blocked by a very good MLB rotation along with a power hitting backup catcher if there is any indication that Dunn won't resign here.

If we don't resign Dunn, this franchise is a joke.  He is by far our best hitter.

I'll just get it out of the way before someone else does it

Zimm YTD - .386 wOBA
Dunn YTD - .398 wOBA
Willingham YTD - .402 wOBA

Jake Peavy had a good game today.  It pleases me when pitchers who pitch well against us, pitch well in following games.

In that same game, Zambrano blew a gasket after the 1st inning, in which he gave up a 2-strike, 3-run HR to Quentin.  He was furious that Derek Lee did not dive for sharply hit grounder right down the line for a 2B off the bat of Pierre.  Zambrano immediately started screaming at Lee when they got to the dugout, even though replays clearly showed that Lee had no play on Pierre's hit.

The Cubs have suspended Zambrano indefinitely.  If you get a chance to see highlights of Pinella's post-game remarks, it's worth seeing.

Well, in DC it's been what, 85? Shouldn't talk, should we?

Number of years of baseball played in DC since 1924: not 85.  Or 70 or even 60.

Understand now? ;)

I'll thumb my nose at the Cubs for at least another 20 years, thanks :P
