I wonder if the other owners can veto the increase in payroll?

I'm late in saying this, but did anyone see how Hunter Wendelstedt totally dicked the Reds out of a win yesterday?

That guy nauseates me.

Mark Buehrle won today's game aganist the Pirates, giving him the most wins all-time in interleague play.

Marlins fail.

Quote
MIAMI -- On a night Florida handed out 15,000 air horns to fans, there was one unavoidable question when a marathon game was over.

Did those horns -- and the constant noise -- help the Marlins blow a game?

Quite possibly, yes.

An apparent miscommunication between Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez and home-plate umpire Lance Barksdale cost the Marlins a big chance in the ninth inning, and the Tampa Bay Rays roughed up Jorge Sosa for four runs in the 11th before hanging on for a 9-8 win on Saturday night.

Quote
The horns might have been a hit with fans, but they were a big miss with those on the field, especially because all the noise could have prompted a lineup-card miscommunication between Gonzalez and Barksdale.

"It was the most uncomfortable baseball game I've been a part of in a long time because of that," crew chief Tom Hallion said. "Whether that had anything to do with it, I don't know, but it could have. When's the last time you heard something like that at a baseball game? Never. You don't see this kind of stuff at baseball games."

Said Maddon: "I really believe the horns should be banned from Major League Baseball."

Added Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla, who, like the umpires, resorted to earplugs: "That was the worst handout or giveaway I've ever been a part of in baseball. This isn't soccer. I know the World Cup is going on, but this is baseball."

And this from Marlins center fielder Cody Ross: "It was awful, awful. I can't tell you how awful it was."

15,000 air horns? Did they even have 15,000 in the stands?

It says nothing about one per customer - I figure a clever/demented person could play 4.

If the Sox keep it up, they'll need a left handed power bat. What would it take to get Adam Dunn?

You want to get run off the board, don't you? Dunn won't be traded, he'll be re-signed or let go for picks. A competitive team will be fielded through September, the fans deserve it and the team deserves it, no matter what Ben Hyphenatedname on MLB Trade Rumors says.

Matt Thornton and Tyler Flowers.

EDIT:  If that doesn't work then a package of Ramon Castro and Dan Hudson would do just fine as well.

The only thing I worry about if the team lets Dunn walk would be who Rizzo would draft with the Type A picks.

I could see one of the picks being a really good player, but the other one I could see being one of his pet project #4-#5 guys that throw sinkerballs and end up having a career ERA right around 4.50.

Palm Beach Post is reporting Fredi Gonzalez has been fired along with bench coach Carlos Tosca and hitting coach Jim Presley.

But St. Claire keeps his.

  Didn't see that one coming.

Wow.  Two games under .500, won 2 in a row, and they dump him for a AAA manager?  Methinks the Marlins ownership understands everything except team management.
