New at the Park in 2010
« on: April 04, 2010, 08:49:24 pm »
Chief move this as needed but.....

Things I've noticed new at Nats Park so far

- no seats in front of the Red Loft, just all bar now (that's where my seats were in 08 when the park first opened).
- Couches and lounge chairs on the Scoreboard walk and the 'backside' of the Red Porch Restaurant (good idea - if you don' like watching the game)
- two new rows of tables for the Red Porch restaurant (an encroachment on Morgantown ;-))
- sign behind the batters that says "Nationals Park" (I think it should read "your name here Park" with a price tag)
- Sign in front of my seats says "Get your Red on Natstown" instead of "Get your Red on" but I still sit just above the Y
- "Flippin Pizza" double plays  - what's not to like about a flippin double play!

Anyone else want to add what they noticed?

No "Curly W" in the outfield grass.  I'm hoping that will return.

Just white paint, isn't it? I expect it there.

There was the painted one behind the plate, but the pattern mowed into the grass in center was gone.

I thought it was mowed in too, then someone convinced me it was sprayed on white paint, but it's mowed.

...any sign of a move toward making the Red Loft/Porch all-access or are they still restricted for the foreseeable future? (I'm a charter STH and have yet to patronise any of the 100/200 level concessions, due to lingering issues over accessibility - a hangover from several negative encounters I've had with Verizon Centre 100-level stewards).

Anyway, back on topic - yesterday I noticed some additional green paint on the 200 level (where the Five Guys and Pentagon Pizza were last season).

Porch is officially all access:

Quote
The Red Porch Restaurant, which opens two and a half hours before game time, provides an excellent opportunity for all Nationals fans to enjoy a fulfilling meal while experiencing a distinctive perspective of Nationals Ballpark. It is located directly inside the Centerfield Gate.

New for this season, outdoor patios create more dining space for guests on both sides of the restaurant. Sliding glass panels and rollup glass doors now present fans with a picture-perfect view into the Centerfield Plaza and the playing field.

The Red Porch's menu features three styles of wings- including Thai-style chili wings, an Italian chopped salad pizzan, Mile High Nachos Grande, and a selection of Minor League Kids Meals for $6. The Red Porch also serves a variety of draft beers and a selection of American micro-brew craft beers.

Loft (200 level) is all access, although they usually stick the Miller Bullpen up there somewhere...
The reason I moved from the Loft to the Porch is because the Loft is a bar...I come to watch the game.
The Red Porch Restaurant is all access, but remember that the restaurant is NOT the whole porch, you can sit where there is restaurant seating but not in the red seats.
(at least not until they turn that whole section into restaurant....and given that they've already taken the top three rows and turned it into a restaurant....)

any new veggie options? last year there was only like one place in the whole stadium to get a veggie burger, and then there was that falafel stand over there by the kids area.

say, is the falafel stand still there?

did they put a bigger TV at the kids area, or are us parents still stuck with that tiny POS that was there last year?

Not sure how up-to-date that list is - the full concessions list on the club site (http://washington.nationals.mlb.com/was/ballpark/concessions.jsp) is definitely out of date...for one thing, assuming what was on offer Saturday is what we're getting this season generally, Stella and Bass have returned to the Gallery level after a one-season absence (a quite warmly welcomed return, judging from the queues Saturday) at the Base LIne Brews in 303/305, and there are several other lacunae in that listing (for one thing, the BLB outside 320 has been removed completely).

We will have to see this afternoon.

There is also now a beerpen on the lower level in the centerfield entrance area. Or at least it was there on Saturday.

I think they got rid of the stupid "10."  Was it behind the score board on the roof top door?  Also, they painted the walls green in the CF upper concession are.  Much more like a ballpark than an office building.

Is the Turtle still sleeping below the bar?

dang, I wanted to be the first to use lacunae in a post!  I guess it is just a gap in my text.

I thought it was mowed in too, then someone convinced me it was sprayed on white paint, but it's mowed.

It's not mowed, it is created by bending the grass - not unlike crop circles, although more subtle.

I didn't like the "Nationals Park" behind home plate.  We have all that beautiful stone yet they keep covering it up little by little.

+1.  The lettering seems tacky to me.  I really loved just the stones back there with a curly W, that was beautiful IMO.
