yeah ... you think we should pick him up?  Is he a better option than Bernadina/Maxwell/Morse/Guzman/Harris?

Ellsbury is back on the DL, so McDonald is not going anywhere any time soon.

The only difference between Winn and Darnell MacDonald is Winn's baseball card is worth more.

Probably not significantly.

Actually, wasn't Rizzo clamoring, or at least dropping a ton of rumors, that he was interested?  I think he signed with NYY then we picked up Willy T.  He may have had a platoon / internal options as a backup plan for Dukes all along.

Dontrelle Willis got DFAed by the Tigers. Minor league deal, perhaps?

Holy... Willis got DFA'ed?!?!? I don't keep track of the AL that much, thus haven't kept an eye on Dontrelle. But how on earth do you fall so far so fast, from his 20 win season with the Fish just a couple years ago? Incredible. I don't care how bad he's been these past couple years, I saw him enough with the Marlins to know he has the innate ability you can't teach to be an incredible pitcher. Sign him to a minor deal, we lose nothing and stand a significant gain if we can work out whatever went so horrifically wrong with him. Sad really, to see someone so young who had such stardom lose it all so unbelievably fast.

Edited to add. Wow, Detroit got ****ed. Almost $30mil the past three years, a 10 era in 10 games year one. 8 era in less than ten year two. $12 mil owed this year. Someones getting fired. That said, he's 1-2 with a 5 era this season, his best year so far since '06. If we or some other team doesn't jump on him ASAP considering his past success and he's obviously turning himself around, they're crazy. Obviously Detroit had enough with paying him as much as they did, but this season his numbers would merit a major league deal on our team right now. If we could get him with a minor league one? Yeah, we should pick him up without question.

I wouldn't waste the time or effort on Dontrelle. There are only so many roster spots at Syracuse and I'd rather the Nationals use those to develop players that could actually help the Nats, not only this year but into the future.

Dontrelle had a schizo year for the Tigers.  He's had 8 starts, gone 5 to 6 innings in 7 of 8, given up 2 runs or fewer 3 times, 3 runs twice, and 4 runs 3 times.  Frankly, with stats like that, he'd be our #3.  He had an OK April (3.75 ERA, 1.542 WHIP, with most of the damage to his rate stats coming in a 1 inning emergency relief appearance) and a lousy May (6.52 ERA, 2.069 WHIP, with a 33 BB _ H over 14 IP in his 3 games since 5/15).  1 BB / IP his last 3 starts.  He's Mike MacDougal, starting.

I am an unabashed Dontrelle Willis fan. Frickin love the guy. Crushed me to see him struggle so much. I read somewhere that he had an anxiety disorder or something that he was being treated for? Is that right? He also had a serious sinus infection early in the year that was giving him vertigo or something.

If there was every a player I would want the Nats to take a flyer on and try and get him right in the minors, it would be Dontrelle. Regardless of what happens, I would be one happy camper if Dontrelle got back to form no matter where he plays.

Say no to Dontrelle. He's not going to regain form.

Plus, the Nats would owe him his complete contract if they took him off waivers.

Not a chance in the world Rizzo makes that move.

No way we grab him off waivers.  The question is, if he clears waiver and refuses assignment, do you sign him owing only MLB minimum?  Get him back to the NL?

any chance there's a catcher worth a damn before we can get flores back?  we need someone to back-up pudge when he gets back.

We need to sign him immediately. Right this second.

As a color commentator for the booth. Those games he was injured and filled in in the booth showed he really has potential in broadcasting. Make it a three-man with Carpenter, Dibble and Lo Duca. (Obviously not even a remote remote chance of happening, but one can dream.)

Resisted temptation for a Debbi Taylor comment here.  Well, a different Debbi Taylor comment than this one.
