It might help convince Garland.

This is the offseason SSB was screaming his head off for last year - leads to top-shelf FA's in a few years.

Nice sign for the Nats, glad he got scooped up before Cashman was tempted.

There's another thread, but why on Earth would he want a deal with Yankees where he might even get shelved to the bullpen when he can be a top-shelf starter on the Nats guaranteed, in the NL, for probably more money and more years.

MLBTR is wondering if the Yanks even have the cash for another starter.

Come to think of it, I think the NYY did not sign their  pick either.  So #42, and if teams hold off on signing some of the free agents like last year (Sheets, Grudzielanek) or if guys resign with their original team (Manny last year), that pick gets better.

[edit on 12/21 - I'm wrong about the NYY. That was last year.  This whole time space continuum things sometimes has me mixed up]

Because he's from New York... and if the Yankees signed him, he would be our #4 starter.

Sabathia
Burnett
Pettitte
Marquis
Chamberlain

Problem is, I don't think he would last till the All-Star break in the AL East, but good deal for Nats.  Yankees are definitely signing or trading for a starter.

Signings like this and the Pudge one help convince other FAs that we're serious about building a winner and convince them to sign here.

I wonder if this will sway Capps our way?

Nice job.  Get one more pitcher now.

Garland/Pineiro is the logical route, but here's a thought I had:

Trade Willingham and a lower prospect to the Red Sox for someone like Clay Buchholz or Michael Bowden.  Sign Bay to replace Willingham.

Awful signing. I would much rather have Craig Stammen than Marquis.
Now we have both.  ;)

This move probably moves Stammen into the bullpen. No way should Olsen, or Marquis be starting ahead of Stammen.

Now Mrs. Stammen, your son has a fine career ahead of him, if he works hard and keeps his nose clean.
